Good people, bad policies, incompetence, regional bias

Lead (Current Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsA few good people to work for

    ConsIncompetent middle level managers
    Terrible salary structure
    No coordination between enabling functions
    HR irresponsible
Biased towards select set of people
    Senior leaders lie
Class values only talked about but not followed
Incompetent people get quickly promoted due to X factor
Huge egos for some but they still become leaders quickly
Don't hesitate to play politics to push senior leaders personal agenda even if it costs someones career
Funny appraisal methodology - incompetent people doing appraisals
Senior leaders Prefer playing sports like golf and tennis rather than increasing sales
Project managers make the team work 15-16 hrs even if the client is condescending
Client is GOD, even if he is wrong.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the process of promoting project manager to general manager in 3-4 time frame. They are really incompetent.
Fire project managers who go to any extent to satisfy the client needs. Many teams are suffering due to this.
If you lose a few critical clients it will erode much of your business. Make sure to keep people happy in at least such accounts.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrowth needs to be market driven and hence need to be more competitive. Probably SALES team need to be improved.

    No good

Project Manager (Former Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsManagement keeps good level fo communication with employees

ConsToo many people in support function - reducing overall utilization rate
Message to support team - "you are there to help the billable employees"
Nobody cares about onsite employees - keep billing as long you can
No bench period. You have to get out of the country on the last day when your billing stops
Training onsite employees - sorry cant do. learn on your own
Expense reimbursement - receipts should go all the way to india before approval. Why give your money and beg them to give it back?
Attend company meeting - yes mandatory, but cant lose billing. So work overtime to compensate time lost in company meeting
health benefits - only 2 options - either you pay a lot for nothing, or you suffer because of no coverage
salary - significant portion is variable pay, nice catch! Dont expect to get the variable component in this life
problem with your computer - oh my god, the number of approvals required to replace a faulty component for an onsite employee is ridiculous

Advice to Senior ManagementIsnt it a irony that you had to learn about employee's grievances in this forum? Wouldn't you have expected that the bloated HR/support structure to have found this out in their overpaid role?
