    Pros

After years of status quo the TV market is finally evolving and Minerva is well positioned to take advantage of it. It's exciting to be in a company that is winning the big deals. We are working with innovative customers that are going to change TV as we know it. Customers have had a positive impact on our company culture.

    Cons

Personal advancement is good but it could be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate communications could be improved. Consider a corporate blog.

I have been working at Minerva Networks full-time

    Pros

Working for Minerva Networks is invigorating. It is focused on growing and moving into new waters. While it has been a smaller competitor they are still competitive and looking for new and bigger opportunities. I would describe the company as determined, driven, focused, and growing. There have been new faces added to the company which is bringing new ideas and experience while keeping the fundamental components brought forth by the junior and senior employees.

    Cons

Some challenges among Minerva would be the simplicity of communication. However, this proves to be a struggle everywhere and anywhere. Communication between associates and management can sometimes be lost, but there are a lot of people making an effort to reach out to others and keep lines of communication and leadership open and clear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to insure the employees are kept up to date on the focus of the company with communication and promotion of collaborating with others. This is something I feel is currently happening, but should be kept up to help motivate others.

    Pros

    Good Location.
    Free Parking.
    Good ppl to work with.
    Decent Health insurance.

    Cons

Very poor Pay structure with no increments. Be ready to stay on the initially offered pay rate for a really long time!
Management more interested in adding superficial features to sell it to few customers rather than encouraging bug fixes and improving QA.
No emphasis on career development what so ever.
Development and QA teams are split b/w US and Europe there is little to no communication between them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's high time to replace the so called directors, vps and bring in fresh blood.

Stuck in a Ditch, Can't Get Out

I worked at Minerva Networks full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free coffee (If you bring your own cup)
    Free donuts (Every Monday)
    Free parking
Direct U.S. sales & support team

    Cons

Minerva is $15M-$20M TV middleware company
Essentially software for set-top boxes (imagine software for Nokia phones vs. iPhones)
Addresses low-growth IPTV market ... marginalized by OTT (Netflix, AMZN, Google)
    Competitors: Cisco, Ericsson & Huawei
Customers are tier-3 telecom operators in U.S. - tiny international footprint
Go-to-partners are too small to drive meaningful sales growth
CEO is largest shareholder, runs the show like a Mom & Pop grocery store
    Ineffective marketing leadership (CEO)
Pay is 30-50 percent below competitors (San Jose developers average $60k-$75k)
No bonus or stock payouts - (Zero, zip, nada)
Poor health benefits - (HSA in U.S. - Overseas developers have no coverage)
Irregular pay dates (Pay dates routinely shifted 3-5 days due to poor cash flow)
Ridiculous travel policies (People are booked 3 per room for some trade shows)
Employee churn averages 20-30 percent per year
    Non-sales management team are low-risk, yes-men
    Rubber stamp, 3-person board

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reinvent yourself or go home
Minerva is a Zombie company stuck in a no-growth market
Some network vendors may kick the tires for customer acquisition value
But outlook for IPTV middleware market is not great.
#1 Microsoft Mediaroom sold to Ericsson for about $50M
#5 Minerva is now worth less.

    Pros

Minerva, one of the few companies in Silicon Valley with deep roots in pay TV, is well positioned to contribute to and benefit from the transformation the television industry is undergoing.

    Cons

Having lived through the tough early stages of the IPTV industry the Company has developed a conservative culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Good Reviews on Glassdoor are written by HR

I worked at Minerva Networks full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Free Drinks
    Free breakfast on Mondays
    Summer BBQs
There are some good people here (not in management)

    Cons

You should probably be aware that any good reviews are likely written by HR in hopes of hiring others to replace those lost by the very high turnover rate. Excessive outsourcing to avoid paying Bay Area compensation rates. Dishonest management. Do not believe anything you are told unless it is in a legally signed document.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider the goals of those you hire and not only your own selfish ambitions. Management is selfish, stingy, and reluctant to reward any but a select few who are exceptional at kissing up.

    Pros

    Good team
    Friendly environment
    New technology
    Innovative mindset
    Everyday mindfood feeder
    International team
    Ability to travel
    Ability to grow
Variety of projects to work on

    Cons

If you fail or if you do not work as expected - you will be blamed and most probably you will notice this in your sellary. But if you work hard and overachieve the expectation - do not expect bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To recognize valuable people and think that may be some people are working for Minerva, because they enjoy it. To understand that minds of different cultures are different and it is not neccesserely that people working for the company just trying to thread it. Not all the employees are lazy and are in company just to get advantage of being in US or money.
