I have been working at Ministry of Natural Resources full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The MNR does great work and has many like-minded individuals that make you actually want to get up and go to work. Tons of variation in jobs, and in all my positions I have been lucky enough to have a large field component and therefore get out in the field often.

    Cons

The moral within MNR right now is very low due to government cuts, lost jobs, frozen salaries and transformation. We are the lowest paid sectorcomparatively to others across Canada AND other Ministries within Ontario. We are also the least trained Ministry and therefore it is difficult to feel confident and be the best at what you do.
Also it is tough to get on fulltime because the opportunity isn't available. Some have been on contract for more than 12 years!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for your employees to grow by preparing them for the jobs and allowing/offering to them the proper training in order to get the job done!

I worked at Ministry of Natural Resources

I have been working at Ministry of Natural Resources

    Pros

Good people, good pay and benefits, oppertunity for career advancement (if supported by your manager). Oppertunity for a lot of overtime if the fire season is good.

    Cons

Working for the forest fire program can be a tricky because work is either very slow when there are few, if any, fires. Or, it's insanely busy during hot and dry weather. Not much of an inbetween.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do not micromanage your staff.
