I worked at Minnesota State University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It is a great learning environment for students and the staff are very particular about the well-being and success of their students.

    Cons

It's difficult to get an on campus job due to the competitiveness amongst students. Also, not all jobs are available for international students.

I worked at Minnesota State University as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

MSU worked with my schedule to find a time that was convenient for me to teach.
The students were good to work with and the web interface for assessing and tracking the student's progress made grading easy.

    Cons

Sometimes relying on technology causes hangups but nothing out of the ordinary.
Working with students exposes you to all kinds of personalities most are great but there are always challenges in this industry.

I have been working at Minnesota State University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great learning environment for students with a faculty and staff who have a sincere commitment to students' academic growth. We have a very helpful staff to work with and we can come together to accomplish a common goal.

    Cons

Promotion within the university is difficult, usually hire from outside of the university. Politics play a role and there is so much red tape to get through.

I have been working at Minnesota State University full-time

    Pros

There is a wide-spread, deep and sincere commitment to students' academic and personal growth. There is strong support for faculty and staff professional development.

    Cons

No one is willing to make the tough decisions. The leadership wants to be all things to all people, rather than focus on the University's strengths and build on that. It means that almost every employee is overworked and pulled in many different directions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Set priorities and fund accordingly.
