I worked at Mirapoint full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When I joined Mirapoint it was a vibrant place where people were dedicated to the products and customers.

    Cons

The new corporate overlords demonstrated that they had no interest in maintaining the Mirapoint product line - from firing all the engineers and outsourcing dev to India, to dismantling the coordinated ecosystem in favor of recommending their competing products.

    Advice to Management

Sell the product line to someone who will care about it. You clearly don't.

    I worked at Mirapoint full-time

    Pros

Innovation was strong early on in the company, and led to new markets, contracts, customers, and growth. The passion and enthusiasm in the engineering team was fairly healthy, and waned as the company tapered down in size. The Technical Support team was top-notch, and was very committed to addressing issues in the field, in a responsible and professional manner.

    Cons

As the messaging market landscape changed, the company was slow to react. The upper management team seemed to be more interested in their exit strategy than winning new business and creating new products.

    Advice to Management

Don't rely solely on the past successes. Develop agility and innovation in new markets. Don't be afraid to drop products or strategies that are failing.

I worked at Mirapoint full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to work with many very smart and motivated people

    Cons

The lack of structure sometimes made it difficult to keep abreast of the workload

    Advice to Management

provide a training on Support processes and tools, so that in addition to learning the product, new hires can learn and adopt the company culture and processes more easily

    Pros

Very flexible with family life, and understanding when issues come up. Senior staff is very sociable and listens but also understands they can't think of it all and require others to pitch in and come up with ideas and implementing those ideas.

    Cons

People tend to do their own thing, not a lot cross pollination.

    Advice to Management

So far I don't have any issues the way the company is being run. I think some hard choices had to be made and they where made. Continue the open lines of communication.

    Pros

Mirapoint's products are sold as an appliance - which is good.

    Cons

Competing with entrenched competition Microsoft Exchange - not a very good place to be in.

    Advice to Management

Figure out your strategy for competing against Microsoft.

  8. Don't expect much from its management team

    Pros

Most of the individual contributors are smart and talented folks. They are nice to work with and want to be successful.

    Cons

A few glaring weak points in senior management meant the company lacked vision. Many folks were frustrated by management's insistence on milking past markets rather than strategically positioning the company for future business opportunities. Perhaps Mirapoint recognizes the weakness of its management team. When last I checked they don't even have bios up for their managemetn team on the company website. Who is their management team? What kind of statement is that when management does not put its name on the door

    Advice to Management

Let someone else run the show before all your talented employees and mangers leave for greener pastures. You can only milk the same cow for so long.
