    Cons

12 hour shifts, unorganized training, psychiatric technicians working with psychiatric patients but not being required to have a psychology degree or experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make psychiatric technicians be required to have experience or a degree in psychology to better care for patients

I have been working at Mission Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Health incentive's for employees, generally people are friendly.

    Cons

The hospital's focus is on doctor's wages and development of new buildings, forcing the lay-off of hundreds of nurses, CNAs, administrators and other healthcare staff, no raises in three years, and no-job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on providing a healthier environment for ALL staff, including sufficient pay and PTO for those who are not doctors or mid-level providers

    I worked at Mission Hospital

    Pros

    Great co workers. Decent food.

    Cons

Being employed at the hospital was great but I had the worst boss ever. Taking advantage of its employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of outsourced management. Hire in house managers that care about the hospital and its employees

I have been working at Mission Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The only pro right now is that I work with an exceptional group of colleagues.

    Cons

Compensation is stagnant. Longevity pay has been discontinued and this comes on the heels of our paid time off accrual having been frozen on three separate occasions. No cost of living increase. No performance increase this year and I'm pretty sure the managers were told to "dumb it down" because I've always gotten "exceeds expectations" in the past. This was the first year ever that I got "meets expectations." CEO loves himself a great deal and has a phobia of fat people. He wants everyone to be slim and trim and is tailoring the health insurance policy to discriminate against anyone who does not subscribe to what he believes is healthy living. There is no privacy in health records. Employees must now choose a Mission provider, not just an "In Network" provider but a Mission provider. This means your employer is your your doctor and your insurance provider. No privacy whatsoever when it comes to your health records. If you don't participate in the "healthy living" and disease management programs then you pay more for insurance. You have to be a puppet on a string to be a Mission employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outsource benefits. Choose a non-MD CEO. Allow more autonomy to employees to avoid becoming an autocracy. The test administered to new hire RN's demands critical thinking skills and an independent thinker but the working style demands that of a soldier. You can't have it both ways. The only people who are allowed promotions at Mission are the ones who know someone and those who "speak out" are gotten rid of.

I have been working at Mission Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The beauty of the Western NC mountains

    Cons

Have worked there almost 3 years without a single raise. Atmosphere of fear and intimidation about losing your job. Was promised benefits would not be lost and now have lost our health incentive and there is rumors of our PTO being taken. Short staffed and having to work harder with the same salary. Insurance really stinks. The cost of living in Asheville rivals some areas in CA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut some of the jobs of the 28 Vice Presidents making 6 figures and pass it down. Almost everybody I talk to is starting to look for other jobs, because of poor wages and loss of benefits coming.

I have been working at Mission Hospital part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Close to home, Magnet hospital

    Cons

Cut staff frequently making nurses work short-handed, unsafe. Say they have a "culture of safety" but do not even care about the safety of their own employees. Cut hours and pay, no union so able to get away with discrimination, retaliation. Would rather have people less educated so they do not know when they are not meeting national standards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the employees that have experience and education. Do not say that national standards are "optional". If you are truly a culture of safety, care about what employees are exposed to in the work environment.

I have been working at Mission Hospital (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good people in general staff

    Cons

    Incompetent, disorganized management.
As far getting hired, if you're young and attractive or a comedian, then you've got a good shot.
Maturity, professionalism, and great job performance are not appreciated.
Recent cutbacks to staffing, compensation, and benefits were blamed on preparing for the new healthcare law - the effects of which no one knows yet. However the hospital continues to invest heavily in growing their network of care facilities in order to maintain their dominance in the western NC area and continue fending off Carolinas Healthcare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have managers undergo leadership training to develop managerial and interpersonal skills. Managers need to stop having their favorites and treat all staff members the same.
