Great way to make contacts while having a lower stress job

    Student Worker (Former Employee)
    Starkville, MS

ProsThe best reason to work here is to have a job where you can actually study while still making some money. I loved working for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

ConsThe biggest issue was the amount of hours. It's difficult as a student to get a good number of hours. This is good for study time, of course, but not so great if you really need some money.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive student workers more advice. Talk to them about the future, tell them about possible contacts, get to know them. I was lucky to have a great supervisor who really helped me learn a lot while enjoying my time working.

An excellent place to be a student worker.

    Student Worker (Former Employee)
    Mississippi State, MS

ProsWill work with your schedule. A great opportunity to become better connected on campus. A great job option for current students.

ConsUnfortunately, I was limited to working twenty hours a week. Most positions only pay federal minimum wage. Hours are limited to normal business hours.

Mississippi State is a place to build off of.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsStarkville is a great small college town. It is great for families and young professionals. All this combined with a great university make Mississippi State a great place to call work.

ConsThe university has a bit of a "good ole boy" policy. This can be counter productive when wanting to move forward.

    Great place with great people.

    Student Worker (Former Employee)
    Starkville, MS

ProsExtremely flexible hours as a student worker
    Friendly coworkers
Told exactly what was expected of you
Senior employee truly cared about your success in school and always allowed you to make school a first priority

ConsMinimum wage, but fair considering the nature of the work
Oftentimes, I was told to do one thing by one employee, but then told to do another task simultaneously by another employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to be wonderful, friendly people :)

    Work-study communications assistant.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsMost of the profs in the department are great to work with, easy going, kind, and pretty much adopt you as a student worker.

ConsThe expectations set for my boss were unreasonable, and thus made my job more difficult. Also, only getting paid for 16 hours because of federal guidelines made it hard - I wanted to work more!
