I have been working at Missouri Baptist Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Big Picture Outlook; BJC/MoBap have a mission and goals and they are communicated regularly
Good facilities, clean environment, supplies on hand
    Good initial training

    Cons

Negative culture within many nurses especially senior nurses
Too many/too often policy changes with poor explanation
Odd management styles, biased communication, poor visibility, sense of favorites
Significant red tape/unfairness regarding HR type issues such as: shifts (day/night), vacation, pay, cancels, etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually do something about the culture change that is recognized as needed. Better prioritization/communication of new roll outs in education and policy. Higher wages to nurses to be more competitive with market and even other BJC hospitals. Be more fair with regards to handling employee issues and less favorites

I have been working at Missouri Baptist Medical Center

    Pros

Great staff, good insurance, new facility.

    Cons

Same problems as many other hospitals. Low pay, lower raises, high turnover.

  3.

    Emergency Department:
Drama & Politics. Consistent change in leadership. Few enabled nurses.

I worked at Missouri Baptist Medical Center

    Pros

Self-scheduling. Staffing. Less busy ER (so allows time for drama=Con).

    Cons

Majority of patient clientele believes the nurse's job is to "get the doctor" and provide them a warm blanket. Raises are minimal. Disharmonious physician-nurse relationships.

I worked at Missouri Baptist Medical Center part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Up to date Hospital new patient suites in heart hospital, very clean

    Cons

Lack of diversity in nursing. Ratio of diverse nurses to population is off dramatically

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace differences you might actually learn a better way to do things and your patient demographics may benefit.

    Pros

This hospital has a pleasant environment with friendly staff. It is well-maintained and cleanliness is a major focus.

    Cons

My experience was one of poor assignments, based solely on patient room location without taking acuity into account. This could make for a very pleasant day, or a nightmare, depending on the particular assignment and the attitudes of those around you on any given day.

I have been working at Missouri Baptist Medical Center full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice facility, large corporation with ability to transfer to other department's. Part of BJC healthcare which is a large non for profit organization.

    Cons

No leadership, I currently don't even know who the manager of my department is. People are rewarded based on who their friends are, not how good of an employee they actually are. Nurses are expected to stand there and "smile" while being yelled at by patient's, families, doctors and charge nurses. Ability to transfer but almost always considered a "lateral" move as a nurse. Very small raises, nurse there for over 5 years and base pay has only gone up less than $2 an hour. Health insurance increases mean I make less take home now then I did as a new grad. Poor HR department. I've worked many 12 hour shifts with no lunch and not even a break.

I worked at Missouri Baptist Medical Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits, room for overtime, flexible scheduling, very knowledgeable support staff. Free gifts yearly. Free little luncheons at least once a year. Free parking in the covered garage.

    Cons

There was difficulty transferring to another floor. The floor I was on was very busy and often it was hard to get a break until after 8 hours of work (in a 12 hour midnight shift).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice if the management focused on all the good their staff was doing instead of trying daily to audit (catch) anyone doing anything minutely wrong. Also physically helping the staff when they are overloaded instead of constantly attending meetings and being MIA in an office or off the floor.

I worked at Missouri Baptist Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Very passionate people, some great executives. Very patient centric environment. The team is very driven to make the hospital a great place for care.

    Cons

Struggle with the idea of personal time. High expectations anchored with seemingly misguided metrics. Poor conflict skills, which leads to a lot of back door conversations. Have a tough time getting past the daily issues to build something below the surface.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open up. Especially with each other.
