I worked at Missouri Department of Transportation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great employees, very friendly, willing to help you out if you are lost on a project.
Extremely laid back work environment, very flexible on hours.
Go out of their way to offer a varied experience to their interns.

    Cons

Some days can be extremely slow in the office. Boss was often surprised that it wouldn't take me all day to draw a single set of plans, leaving me without any new work for the remainder of the day. More experienced employees were generally kept much busier, however.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better compensation for employees, pay is rather low in comparison to other DoT's.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Missouri Department of Transportation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay may be better than other state agencies but MoDOT is the worse to work for. They protect their upper management and don't care about anyone lower.

    Cons

Everything abiut CCO is a con. You do not want to work in that division.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep ignoring the problems and you'll keep losing support staff.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Missouri Department of Transportation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There is plenty of paid time off, you learn alot of different basic heavy equipment, and you can get your CDL through them.

    Cons

Management does not care at all about you unless you are related or grew up together. There is nonroom for advancement unless you kiss up or are part of the good old boy program, or minority. They do not listen to your ideas or complaints and if your in maintenance its always your fault for their mistakes or you have to clean up their laziness because they don't make the contractors do their job correctly. Also do not make them mad or they will find away to make your life horrible or push you out the door if you have your own opinion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with respect and appreciation

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Missouri Department of Transportation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone is very nice and are willing to help. There is always a friendly face around and I'm not sure that I have met someone that is not willing to help you.

    Cons

It can get boring at some point. Things aren't very fast paced so if you like to get things done in a timely manner don't expect it. The pay could be a little more since other states pay their interns more.

I worked at Missouri Department of Transportation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Many jobs available all across the state of Missouri. The new employee has the option to move around to different tasks to find which suits them best.

    Cons

While interning, some of the work days were slower paced. There was not much work that needed to be done on some days.
