To much politics, no growth and do not care about employees.

    Pros

There is plenty of paid time off, you learn alot of different basic heavy equipment, and you can get your CDL through them.

    Cons

Management does not care at all about you unless you are related or grew up together. There is nonroom for advancement unless you kiss up or are part of the good old boy program, or minority. They do not listen to your ideas or complaints and if your in maintenance its always your fault for their mistakes or you have to clean up their laziness because they don't make the contractors do their job correctly. Also do not make them mad or they will find away to make your life horrible or push you out the door if you have your own opinion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with respect and appreciation

    A good learning experience

    Pros

Everyone is very nice and are willing to help. There is always a friendly face around and I'm not sure that I have met someone that is not willing to help you.

    Cons

It can get boring at some point. Things aren't very fast paced so if you like to get things done in a timely manner don't expect it. The pay could be a little more since other states pay their interns more.

    Pros

Great Benefits and pays more than other Missouri State agencies

    Cons

The department divisions make a difference.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Our division head has a closed door policy. No one is allowed to approach him directly. He should be more friendly with his staff.

    Pros

Many jobs available all across the state of Missouri. The new employee has the option to move around to different tasks to find which suits them best.

    Cons

While interning, some of the work days were slower paced. There was not much work that needed to be done on some days.

    Pros

In the office that I work, the schedule is very flexible. You receive generous holidays, sick leave and vacation leave. Great team environment that is more than willing to mentor you to help you succeed. Good benefits, for the most part. They are even willing to work around your schedule if you are going to college. Really good retirement.

    Cons

Insurance is a little high, no longer a 401K match, Pay is a little lower than what you can make in the private sector. General pay raises like cost of living are also few and far between, since it is state money. We have gone 5 yrs without a cost of living raise before.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We have got to find a way to get the publics support and get voter approved funding. We can not always depend on the federal funding.
