    Pros

Very professional organization that has high integrity and great training...I would highly recommend The Missouri State Highway Patrol to anyone looking for an exciting career.

    Cons

Starting pay is a little low compared to similar jobs. You might have to travel more than 40 miles to and from work which can get costly when gas prices are high.

I worked at Missouri State Highway Patrol full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Your days off accrue quickly

    Cons

Work schedule is horrible, no week is like the other, and the hours are a jumbled mess. Quick typing skills are a MUST! You aren't told this during your 8 weeks in Jefferson City where you must also past so extremely hard State and Federal tests along with HAZMAT tests. Pay is very low for the knowledge and skills you must retain. There is a Very Strong line between those who wear brown and those who wear blue uniforms. The running saying that was passed around at the academy was if it's blue it's true, if it's brown flush it down. When you get to your first assignment this becomes glaringly obvious. Was taught very sternly to treat every trucker as a liar and that they are guilty until they prove otherwise.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house. Period.

I worked at Missouri State Highway Patrol part-time

    Pros

The people there are generally very nice. Most are willing to work with you and help out if you are having problems. Good benefits. Most supervisors are very flexible and willing to work around your schedule. They try to make it fun, with dress down days, snack days, various activities and events throughout the year.

    Cons

Missouri state workers are the lowest paid in the nation. Most of my co-workers seemed to have very tight budgets/ financial issues. Moral is pretty low - People generally don't like their jobs, mostly because the is pretty monotonous. Promotions are not dependent on competency. As a result, some supervisors are skillful while others are not. Some are fun others are not. Gossip is a sport.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Missouri State Highway Patrol full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, earn lots of sick leave and vacation time, get 12 paid holidays per year

    Cons

Morale is extremely low, immediate supervisors and upper management all have "God" complexes, even though you go through an extensive background check into your life, including financial, past employment experience, etc, they constantly question your integrity, they follow you in your personal life to a ridiculous level, using anything and everything they can to make your life miserable.

    Advice to Management

You are not Gods, you just work for the highway patrol. Quit playing favorites with employees. Don't change a policy that takes 2 steps, and turn it into something that takes 30 to get it done. If you can't give decent raises, then raise employee morale by recognizing the good that they do instead of dwelling on the negative and tell them about it, and don't do it once a year as a blanket "good job" at a troop meeting.
