    Great Experience

    Work Study (Current Employee)
    Rolla, MO

ProsThere was a great environment to work in. Fun and exciting. There was plenty of time for me to study and get homework/personal work done. Supervisors and peers we're all extremely nice and easy to work with.

ConsThe worst thing would be periods where the office wouldn't have much to do depending on the time of the year. It would just be too much free time where you would have nothing to do.

    GTA

    Graduate Teaching Assistant (Current Employee)
    Rolla, MO

ProsYou get to work in an intellectually simulating professors who have great work ethics. Staff is very friendly and helpful. You teach students which builds your acumen to work with a wide range of people i.e different thinking, varied views. As a teacher your given complete freedom to handle this on your own and if needed you always have help.

ConsThey have limited funding but maybe they are doing the best they can. you also should have a professor to back you up for funding.

Advice to Senior ManagementDetailed transparency in selection process.

Just okay. Not worth living in Rolla.

    Assistant Professor (Former Employee)
    Rolla, MO

ProsStudents are mostly bright and motivated. There are some helpful staff on campus. Pay is good, especially considering the low COL in Rolla.

ConsEngineering faculty/students devalue the humanities/social sciences. Some departments (and their associated leadership) are dysfunctional. Rolla is not an ideal location for people who are not from the area (very isolated and boring).

Advice to Senior ManagementYou can't change the location, so you should make sure that faculty and staff are REALLY satisfied with their jobs. People from "away" are not going to stay for just an "okay" job.
