    Pros

It can be a good place to work if you don't care about producing quality products or delighting the customer.

    Cons

Mitchell is faced with the hard realities of driving the business purely on short-sighted financials for way to long. Non-existed product quality and more than a decade of technology catch-up to do. Not a company for those who value engineering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish a meaningful vision. Find the company's identity and fix the hiring practices. Learn to trust.

I have been working at Mitchell International full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with and fair compensation.

    Cons

Long hours, lack of support, poor resources and infrastructure. No real development or training, you have to figure out a lot of things on your own because the company runs so thin you cannot get enough time from your leaders for the support you need. You often have to wear 3 or 4 hats and perform multiple duties that should be done by multiple people. This causes dissatisfaction with the quality of ones work since priorities are often re-balanced on a daily basis, dropping something you currently are working on to start something else. Really, the flavor of the week when it comes to priorities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more support to the teams that require it. Running so thinly on resource-generating departments is bad practice and provides poor customer experience that can turn away current business and present poor first impressions to new clients.

    Pros

A lot of fabulous people to connect with. Where business and technology meets. A company with a lot of data that can be used for great things!

    Cons

New work methodology that they are trying to put in which take a lot of meetings and times. Lots of applications are outdated and need to be refactored, documented etc.

    Pros

There are events each 2-3 months to celebrate how positive the state of the company is. Often held after important and valuable resources get let go.

    Cons

Work life balance is a myth, but celebrated at Mitchell.
You can get cheaper health insurance on the private market.
You will get nowhere unless you are part of the old boys club.
RIF events are every 2 or 3 months.
    Pay is below average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something with the employee surveys.
Do not push poor scores back on the employees to fix. You need to fix the issues.
Hire SEASONED, EXPERIENCED employees to meet client needs vs. recent grads with ZERO experience.
    Stop over promising.
    Pay market value.
Enough with layoffs followed by cheerleading events.

    Pros

.Employees good work environment. Better in the past

    Cons

Top heavy with Mid and Upper Level Mgt. Old-boys style-promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and get it together. Think of your staff rather covering your own butts and the BOTTOM DOLLAR.
Your killing the employee spirit to do a good job with the 24/7 work expectations.
Your Mgt style is destroying Mitchell as a preferred place to work.
Also. ENOUGH with the endless Employee surveys with NO FOLLOWUP actions.

I worked at Mitchell International full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you want the experience of working in a startup company (lean teams, wearing many different hats) then Mitchell is a good place to start. Although this company has been around for a long time (originally founded in 1965, then acquiring new arms of business - for example, in 1994 (Mitchell ACS/Mitchell Medical), 2005 (Fair Isaac's Workers Comp division), 2013 (National Health Quest out of network negotiation services), the company operates as if the company had just opened its doors. The other pro is the people at this company - I've met some of my best friends here, and the people who have stuck around for several years are wonderful people.

    Cons

The biggest challenge is that leadership is failing under pressures from the new private equity partner to meet their investment objectives, and from customers who are demanding a higher level of service. There is a lot of "smoke and mirrors" in play, and the leadership team tends to place blame on those in mid-level management and below if objectives that were set without having the proper infrastructure are not met. Mitchell's leadership is notorious for using favoritism and workplace politics, pushing high quality employees out. Mitchell tends to hire upper management roles from outside. It is rare that existing employees move up in the company, and if they are promoted, they typically do not get paid as much as someone would if they were to come from outside. Work days tend to be long, and include nights and weekends regularly if you are not an hourly employee, and although Mitchell is working on doing a better job to recognize people for their hard work, recognition is still something Mitchell's management fails at doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and support them by building out better infrastructure for problem resolution (creating new jobs and filling them promptly so that Mitchell can deliver a higher level of service to its customers and partners), find a platform for knowledge storage and stick to it (don't jump back and forth between Salesforce and Microsoft Sharepoint). Be a "greener" employer in San Diego, and promote the use of recyclable and reusable materials, and be a healthier employer by promoting work life balance. It is clear from the work product (code, Customer Service responses, and on up) that most of your work force is overworked.

    Pros

Mid-sized stable company, nice building/rooms, fun company-wide socials, I had a relatively good boss

    Cons

Cheap, energy-draining. There is a significant offshore component and Indian which is fine, but there seems to be more foreign holiday celebrations than American ones. Also, get ready for late-night calls. Varying levels of competence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider paying people what they're worth and need to make a living in the US, especially in regards to the competition which can steal away your better workers. I heard various other coworkers complaining of pay.

    Pros

People you work with day in and day out are awesome. They make it worth getting up in the morning and doing your best.

    Cons

Regular restructuring cycles have working people nervous about losing their job. Quote from one of the more respected senior engineers "once you reach certain pay grade you are fair game and most likely to be replaced by a junior and less costly employee regardless of performance" - that same individual was expected to work a regular day, be in a night deployment from 10 pm to 2 am and return to work next day in the morning - sometimes repeating the same routine 3 times on the same week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more quality engineers and give the scrum teams some breathing room

    Pros

Every 2 week paycheck. Colleagues are good. If you go with the flow, you will survive, if not Beware. Idea's are Not accepted.

    Cons

Lack of qualified Management, promote from within, with NO management skills. Cigna Health Insurance said Mitchell got the 'Bottom Of The Barrel' Health plan for their employees & it is not good. This company sucks the life out of you. Take, Take, Take & give nothing back. Makes feeble attempts to increase employee support after every annual employee survey, which they Fail miserably every year. This place has no clue & is just money hungry. After the failed attempt to merge with a rival company, which company lawyers should have known would create a monopoly, the federal government turned the merger down and Mitchell lost millions. Management stayed and employees paid for inept management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together, you are on a Downward slide. Hire Qualified Management that can motivate employees. Get out of the Good Old Boys mentality & Treat your employees fairly. Quit taking all incentives and benefits away.
