A very internal politics driven organization

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on best practices in setting business goals and objectives.

Extremely dissapointed that a company I respected failed to uphold its own publicly stated values when retrenching local

Human Resources Professional (Former Employee) Sydney (Australia)

ProsGlobal networks, great team of local staff, interesting industry to work in with opportunities for professional development and international travel

ConsRacist and sexist attitudes of Japanese managers, with lack of respect for Australian workplace practices and local employee's career expectations. Short sighted approach based on limited tenure of the Japanese leadership team. Arrogant and unreasonable treatment of local staff tolerated by head office in Japan. Them and us mentality, with the advice, experience and contributions of local staff not valued.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower and trust local staff who are the backbone of the business as they have the knowledge, skills, experience and industry networks which the Japanese management lack. Don't promote the company as "fair and ethical" and then not treat people accordingly. Evolve from the 1950s and the belief in Japanese superiority and treat non Japanese staff with real respect and equality, not just going through the motions of good manners to appear respectful. Comply with unfair dismissal laws and genuinely consider redeployment as an option for redundant staff.
