    Pros

Great place to work for import & export business. People are friendly. No high pressure. You will be able to balance work and personal life.

    Cons

You will need to learn Japanese language if you want to grow in this company. There were only few training program for staff when I worked there.

    Pros

Estability. They do not fire anyone unless they have very good reaons. The business usually has a very strong international component.

    Cons

Senority promotion system. Basically, you are promoted with age and there is a substantial difference between the opportunities that Japanese have and the ones internationals have.

    Advice to Management

Give equal opportunities to all employees.

  3. Helpful (1)

If you have no ambition and like being micro-managed into the ground - this is the place for you.

    Pros

At face value a relaxed office culture, good work life balance by industry standards. Interesting sector of all the financials. Good office location. One or two really good managers but thats all. Good pension and private medical care.

    Cons

Too many to list. No training whatsoever no support from immediate management in most areas. Massively political for the size of the shop, pandering to the hugely over inflated ego's of the few, major critical projects allowed to spiral hugely, hugely over budget and timescale due to petty infighting, empire building and a lack of overall leadership. Coupled with layer of pseudo middle management comprised of long time staffers in a few cases with no real managerial or industry experience who have all the people skills of a dead dog. Standard chronic under investment in all the non revenue generating areas, all of these things combined make for a very stressful and toxic working environment stay long enough and its enough to make you suicidal. Pettiness that sometimes would rival junior school,

    Advice to Management

Wake up. Leave some kind of legacy when you retire instead of looking the other way whilst Rome burns. Get rid of most of your HR department and replace with a few more actual human beings. Invest even a little in your staff and take some pride in the talent that you do have some of whom have been there a long time. Fewer management with more authority to bring change.

    Pros

The benefits were very good, and it is a challenging environment. You must be able to juggle traditional Japanese values and American business etiquette. The workers are all very nice people, and it's generally a pleasant environment to work.

    Cons

The company is a huge conglomerate, so there is a fair amount of redundancies and redundant roles. That being said, if you are looking for lifetime employment in the traditional Japanese way, this is a great company for that.

    Advice to Management

Open to new ideas and new business may follow.

    Pros

You make contacts, learn industrial relations and get exposed to customers. It also has an extensive network worldwide.

    Cons

Management filled up only by expats from Japan. Locals rarely involved in real decision making or business.

    Advice to Management

Communicate clearly your business strategy. Make good employees participate, but for real.
