    Painful place

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsPeople are friendly
    Good benefits

Cons- an investment bank wanna be, with no real capabilities, everything is painfully hard. Incompetent people, ancient system
    - if you don't mind a boring job and spending majority time struggling with internal stuff
    - so many expats there not because they can do a good job
    - senior management seems to be a training post for Tokyo staff

Advice to Senior ManagementMake up your mind if you want to become a real international bank

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Mizuho is the bank you never heard of but is decent to work for.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsDepending on the dept: Hours. No micro managing. Great location at Midtown office. Nice holiday party.

ConsLack of upward mobility. Japanese Bank culture can be challenging at times. Small bonuses. Fractional yearly raises if you part of a cost center. Too much red tape to get your job done with rules and regulations.

Solid employer. It is what you make of it.

    Officer/Associate (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsResources of global institution but yet medium size in US lends to greater job responsibilities, plentiful training opportunities, staff are very willing to cross-train, best benefits package thus far for me.

ConsCultural differences with expat staff may lend to challenges if one is not open to adapt; you can complain about it, or you can try to proactively help the expat staff adapt. Limited interaction between the various entities (Corporate Bank, Securities, Alternative Investments). Change could be enacted more quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease autonomy within NY local management.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
