Pros
Well known and active in most all banking segments globally. Good opportunity for staff to learn and be given exposure to all business activity. Must rely on local hires for expertise in business segments and ex-pat managers wisely defer to local staff business knowledge.
Cons
Generally slow to adjust to market changes and thus misses opportunities more often than not because of structure and bureaucracy.
Advice to Senior Management
Become more dynamic! Reduce bureaucracy and meaningless paperwork and reporting. Streamline approval process and push "real" control further to local hires.
Pros
There is no pressure and stress in daily works. Many people are easy going and relaxed in their works. It would be good to work when you get old and want a secure position.
Cons
Many parts of the work are quite routine. There is no innovation and not much room to make a creativity. You need to just follow the procedure given by head office.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not waste time and people on useless paperworks and procedures. Make a more competitive working environment with better compensation.
Pros
this may be a good place for retirement.
Cons
The job has no fun.
Advice to Senior Management
If not localized, the management assigned from oversea should be sure having right qualification, not seniority.
Pros
Vacation time is great, you get 30 days vacation and what is not used in the year can be carried forward to a maximum of 60 days.
Cons
Depends on the division, but in general work recognition is not based on knowledge or skill sets, rather on being a "yes man".
Advice to Senior Management
Change is the only constant in Life!
Pros
Just that it is a rather stable working environment. They give you autonomy to choose from holidays and work. Worklife balance is fair compared to other jobs in the city.
Cons
Um... they benefit or the hr department are one of the discouragements in working with this bank. They are not rewarding emplyee what they deserve.
Advice to Senior Management
They should review their benefit policies to encourage employees to work for the bank and be proud of their job.
Pros
Exposure to a lot of different products
Cons
No real drawbacks other than usual obstacles
Advice to Senior Management
Integrate systems
Pros
good place to learn and work
Cons
not really an international bank
Advice to Senior Management
more aggressive
Pros
New carpet at the entry
Improving your japanese if you speak it
Close to St Paul (though I have no windows)
Free coffee
Cons
I have a dead end job, you need to play politics to be promoted, there is absolutely no communication with senior management (maybe if you speak japanese you may get a few words), non japanese and non directors were the one to be laid off in 2009. No much future for Mizuho I am afraid. A big corporation paralysed by its own bureaucracy. Frozen salaries since 07 (for the lucky ones like me not fired). Don't join Mizuho honestly
Advice to Senior Management
the communication is extremely poor, no intranet to look for internal jobs, no promotion except for directors (to justify their salary increase while ours are frozen?)
Pros
Good HR effort and very polite to employee.
Cons
No career opportunities in the future. Very less international opportunity for local hires.
Advice to Senior Management
Try taking risk more and be educated in international management.
Pros
Great co workers, Great location
Cons
British/Japanese co workers look down on Americans
