Pros
Good working environment
Friendly colleagues
Not political
Work is challenging and interesting
Cons
Sometimes direction from management is not clear
Promotions may be slow
Pros
I can only speak for the department which i worked for, Customer Service Dept. It is a young, fun and dynamic environment to work in. It provides good training ground for fresh graduates. Unlike most offices which are plagued by severe politicking, in M1 Customer Service Dept, one can often find good rapport amongst the ground level staffs.
Cons
MobileOne's career enrichment programs is nearly non existent and is very much unstructured. One would've expected more from a big corporation as such. Self motivation is very crucial for any employees to be successful, but encouragement and proper training will definitely help to further the cause. This is something which the management seriously lack, or chooses to turn a blind eye to.
The mentality of the management is to do the bare minimal and yet gets the best result from the employees. It's very much like calling "TOTO/4D" an investment, with $1 quick-pick TOTO ticket , one still stands a chance to win millions of dollars.
But seriously what are the chances of that happening???
I will not encourage anyone who wants to go far in their career to work in M1. Getting a promotion in M1 is 99% Russian roulette and 1% based on merit.
Advice to Senior Management
In the telecommunication industry where the market is becoming more saturated in recent years, employees are a company's biggest asset. Because when you can't reduce the price any lower and when all the competitors have the same products, the people factor is the only factor that is going to make the difference.
Hence, invest in your employees. Because only when they grow, that's when the company will follow suit.
Pros
It is a pro family environment with sufficient worklife balance. Thus, the staff turnover rate tends to be quite low and stable. There is also adequate job security even in such uncertain times.
The workload is managable. There is significantly less office politics as compared to the other companies in the same industry.
Cons
The company seems to have many low level ranks and promotion being typically slow. As such, young and ambitious individuals would find that career progression is slow due to the many layers of hierarchy in the company.
The basic compensation package together with the bonus payouts are lower as compared to industry norms as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Disbursement of increments and bonuses should be more performance-based, as with promotions.
