I have been working at Model N full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Smart and charismatic CEO (his execs though seem not to respect him behind his back).
Some good people (but not at senior levels
Professional employees for the most part.
    Friday lunches /calls at HDQ.

    Cons

    Lousy senior management.
Highly political even at the relatively junior level/mid level.
Lousy products. Most have a DIY feel.
Work life balance is non-existent and mundane/lousy tasks in plenty. Very long hours each day and most week-ends with management not even showing appreciation (i.e. it is expected).
Sales: poor; (on the bright side this means customers are possibly too smart to get fooled.)
    Poor delivery.
State of flux. Recently a few senior level people (sr. Director and above) left the company despite having just been promoted.
Facade: pro-people but reality is way different.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop producing vaporware. Make real products.
Face the reality of your political environment, reward collegiality.
Get rid of current senior management.

I have been working at Model N full-time

    Pros

    Pros:
    - No micromanagement
    - Quick growth in roles if you're willing to work hard
    - Smart people to work with. Generally, everyone is a pleasure to work with.
    - Good managers within GCS with people who really understand the product and the industry.
    - Catered lunches on Friday.
    - Opportunity to work across multiple teams.
    - Yoga available for those at HQ.
    - Ping pong tournaments.
    - Most people are interested in the betterment of the company and the products.
    - Interesting niche that opens the door to the Life Sciences industry.
    - Every project is different, so you are constantly learning.
    - Upbeat pace.
    - Willingness to create programs/plans to keep people happy.

    Cons

    Cons:
    - Salary needs to be fought for.
    - Architecture of the product needs to be looked at and improved upon to improve product quality.
    - Not enough activities to build happy employees and team comradery.
    - Difficult to work with an offshore PD team in India. People based out of the stateside tends to sacrifice more time than India.
    - Benefits are okay. Coverage could be much better for a company in the tech sector of Silicon Valley.
    - No 401k matching.
    - Need to constantly fight for work life balance, otherwise management will just over work you.
    - Needs more technical innovation and investment into technical innovation.
    - Cheap on handing out shares to employees outside of upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Listen to your employees within professional services. They are the ones that constantly interact with your customers.
    - Your employees at the end of the day need to be kept happy if you expect to see results. No one appreciates having to work long hours and yet never get recognized for it. Benefits, compensation, and a career path needs to be improved upon in order to retain and gain employees.
    - Improve on product quality. There seems to be a huge disconnect between the people building the product and the people actually delivering it.

I worked at Model N full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Recognition of ideas and thought, ability to work closely with Product and Professional services teams, good team collaboration, culture was close knit until the IPO and now there's no culture

    Cons

Poor Strategic Management, Company tried to change culture by hiring folks from Consulting industry but never paid attention to the dramatic cultural shift that happened. Processes changed from normal to over-engineering making it difficult to get work done. Company hired too many higher level folks in Management who do not know anything about the product, resulting in a deadly spiral, competition has heated up and Customers are not happy because of pushy company management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all the fat at the top of the organization, reduce the # of levels in the company, make it more flat. Software companies should have more engineers and less managers, let creativity thrive and do not stop innovating.

    Typical small enterprise software company

I worked at Model N for more than a year

    Pros

Good opportunity for those beginning their career. The engineering and product teams are fairly strong. The culture is okay but not great. Get ready to work with India all hours of the night.

    Cons

Company has been around for a long time and the culture and products reflect this. A lot of people have been here for many years and are too comfortable. The products are not that impressive - technology is relatively old. The markets are limited. It's more of a services company than a products company.
