I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Close knit group of dedicated professionals in teaching and administration. Excellent opportunities for growth and coaching.

    Cons

It's in the central valley! If Modesto schools moved west, I'd work there again in a heartbeat.

I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you like working with kids it's a good place to work

    Cons

Work under 10/hr a week for so no big pay check, if you leave unemployment will reject your claim and tell you to find a full time job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to give Yard duty more hours to work.

I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent pay and working conditions due to strong union

    Cons

Much incompetence in leadership as the only way to make good money is to become a principal or above

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the students, not your superiors. You've forgotten who you work for.

I worked at Modesto City Schools

    Pros

MCS is one of the largest local school districts and usually pays better than the other local school districts. The Teachers' union is strong but the classified employees union is weak.

    Cons

It is very hard to get hired on due to lack of positions available to non-employees. Until you have five or more years senority, you are at high risk to receive a pink slip every year (around April).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to meet more often with the classified employees as well as the certificated employees to fully collaborate to help benefit the children and educators.

I worked at Modesto City Schools

    Pros

Fabulous School District to work for! I just landed a temporary position so didn't have room for advancement. Pay rates are more than reasonable and I hear that the benefits for full-time employees are fantastic!

    Cons

As a part time/temporary employee, the hours were not what I expected or wanted to work (too few) and there are no benefits or room for advancement in this type of position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership at MCS was detail-oriented and micro-managed, so there weren't any questions about what needed to be done, by when, or how. The CELDT team staff was well informed and worked hard at their jobs, as well as making sure we knew ours.
