    Pros

Pay is fine, and the work isn't too difficult.

    Cons

Some classes can be challenging and there isn't much support. Some schools are more welcoming than others, too. Not much skill-building though for the position.

    Advice to Management

Provide more welcoming and gainful opportunities for substitute teachers.

I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time

    Pros

Decent Salary for the area. Set work hours. Usually had a lot to do.

    Cons

Benefit cost was far too high and the quality wasn't there. Too routine. Too much inter-office politics and games played.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees room to grow. Don't play games with people and own up to your decisions!

    Cons

Health Insurance takes a third of your paycheck Not enough money to live off of Union allows many bad employees to continue working without consequence

I worked at Modesto City Schools (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, higher than pretty much any other public school system that I know of. Website is easy to navigate.

    Cons

They employ a LOT of subs, so work can be a bit intermittent. No district wide parking pass, so you have to get individual passes from each school, which is a bit much.

    Advice to Management

A district wide employee badge and parking pass would be very helpful -- would make sign-in much more seamless.

If you like working with kids modesto city school is a great place to work during my time with modesto city school I have work with many kid from grade 1st thru 6th and with kids with speacial needs. It was a learing experience for me.

    Cons

The only bad thing I can say about working for modesto city school is with my job the pay was nice minimum wage but the hours were short I average 7.5 hours a week when I left Modesto City School I could not get unemploment because i did not work enough hours to collect it. I got hurt off the job i went to apply foe ssi and found out the school do not pay ssi.

    Advice to Management

you need to incress the hours for the yard duty and give some kind of ssi to your part time employee.

    Pros

Excellent pay and working conditions due to strong union

    Cons

Much incompetence in leadership as the only way to make good money is to become a principal or above

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the students, not your superiors. You've forgotten who you work for.

    Cons

It's in the central valley! If Modesto schools moved west, I'd work there again in a heartbeat.
