Pros
Great place to work. People are kind and friendly, team environment. Leaders are smart and make decisions at reasonable timeframes! Flexible and understanding regarding personal time.
Cons
Promotions don't always make sense. Can be viewed as 'good ole boys' environment at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Give recognition where it is deserved, but good job nonetheless.
Pros
* Benefits were good. But insurance costs are going up, just like most companies.
* 401-K for new employees is great. $1 for $1 up to 6% and fully vested after one year.
* 60% employee discount on faucets (limited to 2 a year).
Cons
* The career website claims that they offer a pension, however that is for employees who have been there before 2008. I believe that is when they changed the policy.
* I feel really bad for the customer service department. Because non-exempt employees are required to clock in and out every day, the manager of the department takes full advantage of her power. If you're late even a couple of minutes, it's mentioned on the performance review.
* No room for growth unless you do some serious kissing up. It's hard because many of the managers have worked in their current positions for years, so it's hard to get mentorship from them to learn something new in a different department.
* No raises for long time and when you do receive one, it's never more than 2%.
There have been lay-offs (not mass, but still lay-offs) every year, since early 2007.
* Way too open of an environment. They don't have traditional cubes so you get to deal with a lot of annoying habits from the people sitting next to you.
* Som North Olmsted corporate deparments are not located in the big Moen building. So if you're looking for upper management exposure, then don't plan on working in the Country Club Blvd location.
Advice to Senior Management
*Show some respect for the people who work under you and quit threatening to eliminate jobs when times get tough. We all know that times are tough for all companies, but show some compassion for people when they're going through tough personal times (or late 3 minutes for that matter).
* Quit having so many closed door meeting. We all know that you are considering a reduction in force.
Pros
Pay is above average with average benefits
Cons
If you are not with in the circle friends to include wives of the plant manager then you will be singled out and ostrisized. The facility is more like high scool reunion then a professional work enviroment.
Advice to Senior Management
Clean house. There needs to be some real auditing of house practices are being administered. The ability for individuals to work without having to feel they have to kiss up and join the plant manager after hours for drinks is an absolute if you plan on advancing. Also, please make sure his wife like you or your spouse or it will effect how you are treated at work.
Pros
The work/life balance is great; benefits are fantastic, including vacation and 401k.
Cons
Times are rough for Moen as we've all seen the housing industry plummit. With that said, there is has been one merit increase in 3 years of 1.5%.
Politics is beginning to play too large of a role in the company and the teach/grow/promote from within mentality is long-gone. One bad manager can make or break your experience at Moen.
You receive more praise and recognition for playing the politics than you do for your actual performance.
There is a sense of a "good ole boys" club that is very hard to penetrate, but it's a must if you want to succeed and grow with the company. Once they feel you aren't their "mold," it's as if you don't even exist.
Pros
No micro management, Easy going, Low stress environment
Cons
Lack of transparency, poor compensation, no recognition
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open in communication
Pros
Great work/life balance. Strong leadership
Cons
Housing Market is in bad shape and it will be a long recovery
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your feet on the street for product changes
Pros
Good business when run by Bruce - now no real leadership
Cons
On the wrong track with product development
Advice to Senior Management
Work on product quality
Spend time focused on employees
Pros
It was a job. Not the best, not the worst. High stress.
Cons
Lack of good equipment and people on the floor that care.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep working hard but be fair.
Pros
Hourly associates are dedicated individuals and friendly to work with through out the company. The hourly associates seem to have more knowledge about how to manage a company and treat senior employees better than at least half the managers that are currently within the Sanford Division.
Cons
Management along with Human Resources has really been terrible to deal with on any level for the last several years. Hourly associates are being treated with absolute malice . They have zero respect for tenure/seniority and would rather lose skilled labor for a new employees with no experience/vacation/ benefits within the facility . They would rather turn their heads than say hello or good morning to associates. Double standard job posting and bidding procedures within the Sanford Division are rampant . Most senior skilled labor workers are looking for new jobs outside the facility because of this atmosphere of " micro-mismanagement " and gross negativity through out the facility. The morale in the Sanford plant has never been so bad due to the hiring of new unqualified managers with absolutely no interpersonal skills what so ever or intelligence, so it seems. The first survey we had in years had no comment section or management questions , which was very convenient for management. They have been using the economy for an excuse for years to exclude some benefits annually for hourly associates that were normally received for many years. Quality control needs to replace managers also !
Advice to Senior Management
Replace all management hired within the Sanford Division over the last five to eight years or send them to"Moen University" in Ohio for the next ten years to learn how to respect dedicated workers and treat them fairly as they would like to be treated. Most have spent most of their lives and careers in the Sanford Division. Retirement benefits need to be upgraded to current standards of living !
Pros
MOEN has a good company operating philosophy. On principle it should be an excellent place to work. and it has the potential to make employees proud and motivated.
Cons
The company's operating philosophy it meaningless by the time it gets to application. They fire people for little to no reason. The way they fired people was reminiscent of the movie "Schindler's List". In the movie workers were escorted out and shot. At MOEN, they would come and get people out of the blue and two people would escort them out. They could never be hired again and it was advisable to never talk about these people. This happen very frequently.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your act together and do as you say it should be done.
