Pros
Great employee benefits. Good pay.
Cons
Lack of benchmarking for some departments. Not enough change and interdepartment cooperation. Senior management often underqualified to handle their positions due to preferential hiring practices.
Advice to Senior Management
Inspire and encourage subordinates to meet new benchmarks in customer service. They aren't being challenged and there's not a decent recognition system for good performance.
Pros
Pay is good compared to any other job in the area you can get with a similar education/skill-set. Fast paced atmosphere with a chance to network with customers as well as staff.
Cons
Impersonality of a large casino. No matter how well known you are to your department, supervisors, and such, you can be out on the street tomorrow. Serious failures in risk management when dealing with RSI, which is a common issue for the job. Benefit plan has gone from one of the best in the nation to just another thing for the casino to squeeze for profit in less than five years. 401 K match now non existent.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a look back at what made you successful over the first several years, a tenet you still have printed on your employee buses. "employees are the core of our success" . How long has it been since that was actively practiced?
Pros
Fun environment, chill people, relaxed policies
Cons
schedules in the front of the house are awful, but understandable because of the type of industry
Advice to Senior Management
doing a good job
Pros
Great People and Great Management
Cons
Schedule Shift Hours Time starts
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing really, they are a great organization to work for and building a career is available in certain areas of the casino....great for part time work
Pros
Very flexible time
Great benefits
Good pay for level of education required
Cons
Dullest, most boring, unrewarding, and unchallenging job
Smokey environment
Customers are grumpy, drunk, and smoke
Supervisors aren't always supportive
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to motivate the dealers to perform their work better.
Pros
It is decent pay for a job that does not require a degree with good benefit package and some room for career growth.
Cons
For part time job only. Not a long term career if you seek professional advancement especially if you got higher education.
Advice to Senior Management
Should treat employees more fairly across the board. Some floor person are just more difficult to work with than others.
Pros
Some flexibility in scheduling. No work to take home. Recognized by middle management for performing up to and above standards. Middle management easy to communicate with.
Cons
Becomes very repetitive. At the mercy of a computer scheduling system. Not able to deal preferred games, for the most party. Dealing with clientele that requires an education.
Advice to Senior Management
If dealers want to switch games, just do it. It is not that big a deal AND the dealers would enjoy their shift more.
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at Mohegan Sun are an abundance of well paying low skill jobs and an average group of employee benefits like free insurance, employee sports leagues and trips as well as twice yearly plus Christmas bonuses, however, I believe since I left they have done away with most of these benefits.
Cons
The downside to working at Mohegan Sun is the lack of advancement opportunity and the experience in most of the low skilled jobs does not translate into other positions so it becomes difficult to leave and find other jobs outside of the casino.
Advice to Senior Management
I find that Mohegan Sun has a very top heavy leadership structure a too many chiefs not enough Indians scenario combined with a lack of communication which often leads to confusion as one manager tells you one thing and another tells you something completely different.
Pros
best paid job without higher education requirements
great benefits (health insurance)
Cons
Shift Schedules (5 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. or 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Advice to Senior Management
Change shift schedules
Pros
Good Benefits, flexible hours. All in all it is a neat experience working in the second biggest casino in the world. There are always great shows and great entertainers. With a little luck you can land some tickets to some of the greatest shows in the world. Management is usually pretty much on-the-ball, and the casino works on a point system. You get so many points a year, every time you're late, they deduct points and so on. Once you reach the maximum points in a given year, you're fired. This makes for punctual employees you (usually) care about their job and providing a wonderful experience.
Cons
The wild and crazy atmosphere, pissed off patrons (lost a lot of money). You are not allowed to gamble at this casino. Open 7 days a week 365 days a year.
Advice to Senior Management
