I have been working at Molded Fiber Glass Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

MFG is recognized within the industry as a leader in composites manufacturing. MFG has been profitable for many years due to conservative fiscal management.

    Cons

Executive management aging and out of touch with teammates and managers. There are several "cliques" that run the Ashtabula facilities. General Manager of CSC is a purchasing agent and not an educated manufacturing leader. CSC as well as other plants lack continuous improvement environment. Compounds are outdated and do not meet the future needs of the customers. There is instability at CEO, COO and EVP. Trying to find excellent leaders that can work with CEO is difficult. CFO and accounting team is excellent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get younger, get leadership, get better materials. Need to explore non-fiberglass material systems for future growth. Need to find and retain good leaders that strive to invigorate teammates to perform. Management wastes talented people in dead end positions, no growth opportunities for middle management.

    Pros

Established company, looks good on the surface.

    Cons

Poor benefits, heavy-handed senior management, no growth or relocation opportunities, failed/empty promises, zero work-life balance. Treated more like slave labor than valued employees as they claim, terrible safety practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Completely eliminate the management team and start over, top down.

    Pros

Mid level management and engineering are good people to work with for the most part. The good people are always willing to explain what is going on and will go out of there way to make sure you understand.

    Cons

Constantly changing upper manangement who are all the same people.
Upper management very narrow sighted and do not understand processes like they should.
Filthy plant that does not have the capital to change anytime soon.
Teammates are not treated very good, most people leave as soon as they find another job. Constanatly rotating workforce and terrible training program leads to inefficient operation.
Alot of cliques in management that don't do a whole lot besides pile work onto other people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees, not other members of upper management. Break up the cliques so people in mid-lower level positions can do there job effectively without doing other peoples work.

    Pros

I used to look forward to coming to work. It was fun and challenging. Now it's just an effort. Another day of being beaten into the ground.

    Cons

Management can only think about 10 minutes into the future and very rarely take the 15 minutes they require to process what you are saying to make an intelligent decision.
-The "process" that has kept this manufacturing company in business is seen as the "proper" way.You just put cog A into slot B. How hard can that be?
     - There is little possibility of internal development or growth. If you want to get ahead, you have to learn to live with a brown nose.
-People are interchangeable parts. There is no sense of skill level or competence, you just pick a person out of the hat and they are the best person for the job.
-Career development is seen as the number of years you sit in your chair twiddling your thumbs, not what you actually are able to accomplish.
-10 years of making bad decisions is better than 9 years of consistent excellence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some classes on leadership. People follow people who they trust and admire, not the people who like to hide away or defer a decision to someone else. Don't try to pass the blame when a project that you insist must be done, despite the advice from your entire department against it, goes south and don't ride the success of your staff until you actually do something the helps them do their jobs. Learn how to communicate your reasons for decisions, instead of using the phrase "because I'm your boss and I said so".

I have been working at Molded Fiber Glass Companies full-time

    Pros

Have very good products that seem to be in demand. The company makes money on a regular bases. Employees are treated well and are given lots of perks.

    Cons

The company doesnt pay as well as it could and pay is not the same for women as it is men. The "good ole boy" attitude still very much alive at Molded Fiber Glass.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some advancement can happen if you are willing to learn new things.

    Pros

Great people to work with. Very friendly and they are helpful when you have a question. Lot of opportunities in different areas.

    Cons

Could use more organization. Certainly have the disadvantages of a private company. Other than that it is a pretty good company to work for.
