    Pros

Lots of passionate and great to work with employees at the non-manager level. Many try to do whatever they can to deliver great customer support, but its hard when so over-stretched. Lots of great ideas and some great products. Danaher has some great business tools, when used appropriately with right resource levels. Pay and benefits are generally good.

    Cons

Stressful environment. Employees overloaded covering for work that used to be done by employees who have been let go or quit/never re-hired. Told to kaizen out waste and focus on only "what has to be done" but if YOU value your customers and a job being done right you end up over-worked and doing work others used to be responsible for.
    Little room for career growth.

    Advice to Management

Staff appropriately. Work-life balance is important to employee satisfaction AND productivity (see recent studies on this).
Actually train managers to develop their staff, and then hold them too it. Don't just talk about it.
Care more deeply for customers and about building relationships with them, not just selling them product.

    Pros

If you like process this place is for you.

    Cons

Productivity using your skillset is diminished by the amount of process you have to adhere to.

    Pros

Good place to learn Danaher business/company system (DBS). Salaries are midrange.

    Cons

Some DBS tools are outdated and not optimized for a technology company. Underwhelming compensation package. Physically separated segments of company make highly integrated product introductions slow and complex.

    Advice to Management

The company management is adhering to the Danaher approach to all aspects of the business. It will be interesting to see if the Danaher skill sets can be leveraged in a technology driven industry such as that which Molecular Devices competes in.

    Pros

Danher is willing to invest in the business and employees.

    Cons

Metric driven envirnment. Employees are overworked and underappreciated. MD has lost the small company feel to become a machine.

    Advice to Management

    grow a pair

    Pros

The parent company is very process oriented and they know what they are doing. People who works there are very specialized and knowledgeable with what they do.

    Cons

company focuses all on process and not a whole lot on people. there was no employee development and long working hours

    Advice to Management

need more focus around work life balance.

    Pros

6-7 years ago MDS was the most wonderful place I had ever worked.
Then Danaher took over and replaced all of management in the service department.
The only thing that mattered was growing the bottom line.

    Cons

If growing the bottom line meant "gouging customers", so be it.
If growing the bottom line meant "firing senior engineers", so be it.
If growing the bottom line meant "destroying long-term relationships", so be it.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone you got from Perkin Elmer. Hire back anyone you can that was fired in the last 3 years.
    Listen to your customers.

Overall, it's an okay place to work for.

    Pros

Good smart people work there. They make the hard work worth it.

    Cons

The company overloads their current staff and has a hard time filling in positions that are vacated.
