I have been working at Momentive Performance Materials full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the employees are great to work with
    Decent Benefits and Pay

    Cons

-A lot of employees are there for a paycheck and don't do their job and continue to live off GE's dole.
-No forward thinking and our market shares are showing it.
-Road block innovation by having their scientist/engineers do all the commercial and marketing data BEFORE they can work on their ideas.
    -little to no promotion
-lack of a willingness to change from "The good 'ole days" of being GE
-Vacation is non-existent unless you've been there for over 10 years (2 weeks for 5 years, 3 weeks till 10 years, and then 4 weeks max)
-profit sharing is laughable due to lack of direction from upper management and ridiculous goals that are un-achievable.
-Commercial team is lazy and wont do their job of finding new and potential markets and gets upset when innovative ideas are brought up.
-Facilities are ancient and roofs are leaking everywhere
-preventative maintenance is a bad word in Manufacturing. Instead, they cut corners to save a dime, but in the end it cost them customers, and several million dollars in products
-EHS in manufacturing is lazy and doesn't know much about regulations except what has been put in front of them and expects the R&D group to make the changes needed instead of manufacturing doing it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the commercial team to quit living off of the past employers name. We've lost a lot of market share in our current products due to the commercial team and they haven't done anything to stop it. They need to be doing the leg work of talking to new customers in potential markets that Momentive's products would be very useful in.

Upper management needs to look at the work by their workforce en recognize them with the proper promotions etc.

Set achievable goals for profit sharing... the last year (2013) was an insult.

Speed up your yearly review process. Establishing your yearly goals in the second quarter is poor management.

Get Manufacturing to do their own process control, preventative maintenance, EHS and engineering work.

    Pros

    - Nice salary and bonus structure
    - Hard working people
    - Great products

    Cons

    - 4th CEO in 4 years
    - Too many different directions
    - Lack of accountability for leadership due to CEO switches
    - Low bonus payouts in the past

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a new company launch a clear plan and stick to it for more that 6 months. Really look at current leadership and determine who can move the company forward in a world class way, then hold them accountable. More communication to the overall organization. You can make this great, now is your time!

I worked at Momentive Performance Materials full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Select staff are terrific. Diverse issues and large plant make getting a varied work experience easy. Interesting product line.

    Cons

Leadership has no clear vision. Antiquated plant needs cash infusion that will never come. Incompetence is rewarded, hard work is scrutinized and rejected. Safety is only important on the surface - leadership is clueless how to institute a robust safety program. Union members languish over issues from the past.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for real improvements that will rejuvenate the business and allow it to compete long term. Eliminate the managers who don't know what they are talking about. Audit ethics compliance, don't just send out memos reminding staff of the requirements. You'll be surprised by what you might find.

I have been working at Momentive Performance Materials full-time

    Pros

The company offers a lot of amazing products that have been around for decades and are still unmatched by the competition. The company recently has been consolidating the number of offices to reduce the overhead as well as help with internal communication between departments. During this process they have also been able to create new positions as they work to expand and grow the business. I have watched as two associates have been promoted to Inside Sales from Customer Service. The benefits are good and we have received a yearly merit increase. The managers are all very friendly with an open door policy and really care about the employees.

    Cons

Customer Service is a very stressful job and it has been stretched very thin from promotions and promotions leaving the rest of the team to cover while new applicants are interviewed and the spots are filled; this process takes entirely too long. The company is very Six Sigma focused which can make the process very rigid and not very flexible when it comes to helping those that pay us, the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company as a whole needs to go back to focusing on the customer and being customer-centric instead of worrying about the bottom line as much. There are too many obstacles in the way to service the customer and not enough freedom for the associates to help them.
