Pros
Large budget for equipment and reagents. Large lab space, shared equipments. High through put technology.
Cons
Share lab space and equipment could be messy at times
Pros
The environment is conducive for internships as it creates a balance between work and social life, enabling one to prepare for formal employment outside the compass. The management is supportive
Cons
The workload is determined by the number of classes conducted per week and how students are catching on to the prescribed coursework
Advice to Senior Management
Create more opportunities for employment around the campus. Create a balance for salaries in relation to work done instead of the flat rate
Pros
Flexible hours, atmosphere, facilities, environment, conditions
Cons
management, salary, future career, recognition
Pros
Supervisors were friendly. The provided clear instructions and gave a great deal of autonomy to research staff.
A growing hub for scientific research in South East Asia.
Cons
Pay rates need to be more consistent with job roles. The disparity between research and teaching pay is quite frustrating.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciated the support. Payscale needs to be reworked particularly in departments which pull in a relatively large amount of funding.
Pros
Monash gives you great opportunity to accelerate your academic career while still having opportunities to work in the financial industry
Cons
The management system is very mechanistic which sometimes slows down decision making process
Advice to Senior Management
Should bring more firms from industry in to bring more pracability to its education system
Pros
Clayton campus is convenient. Lots of choices to go for lunch, can do your daily errands very easily.
Have a good study leave policy, and can be extremely flexible if you need to be absent for study reasons.
Lots of secondment opportunities, just be patient and wait for the right one.
Cons
Women are outnumbered here 3 to 1. (This is in IT @ monash, not monash generally).
Massive workload leading up to semester, but can be enjoyable if you like the intensity of that sort of thing. :-)
Advice to Senior Management
An local mentoring scheme for younger/newer employees would be a help.
Pros
if you are an established reseracher go for it.
Cons
if you are an early career reseracher and/or a woman forget it.
Advice to Senior Management
none.
Pros
Modern facilities, including advanced IT services. Good people with great ideas. A real sense that the place is contributing and moving forwards.
Cons
high expectations and ideas aren't always in the right direction.
some long hours expected with little to no recognition.
super isn't as good as other Universities
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your underlings. You were once them! Be proactive in recognising achievements and aware that not everyone shows off their successes
Pros
Despite being a large multi-campus university, there is still collaboration between groups (and across campuses).
Cons
Administration can sometimes be weak - my first sallary was two weeks late, but after that initial hiccup things were fine.
Advice to Senior Management
Pass more administrative responsibilities to individual departments - the centralized model can be unwieldy and slow at times.
