    Pros

Professional and Personal Growth Career Opportunities Benefits Flexibility

    Cons

Very political environment Lean teams and compromised quality Inexperienced people leaders with no desire to lead exist in some departments

    Advice to Management

There should be career opportunities for individuals not interested in people leader roles. People leaders should want to be in the role and not placed there due to tenure or because it's frowned upon to only want to be an individual contributor.

    Pros

People are committed to creating food to support 10 billion people by 2050

    Cons

Data systems were difficult to negotiate. Everyone understands their role, but difficult to find anyone who can give an overview of company function. On boarding new employees is not a priority.

    Advice to Management

Make sure new hires are onboarded with enough knowledge. Assign a mentor to help follow up with new hires.

    Pros

Gain a lot of high quality experiences. Great culture with a strong emphasis on safety and family.

    Cons

Takes a very, very long time to move up within the company. It's a great stepping stone job, so if you get an entry-level position there take advantage of all of the knowledge you can gain and develop yourself as much as possible. When you are ready for the next step in your career the best opportunities will be outside of the company.

    Advice to Management

This is very broad request considering the size of the company. Any advice I have would be very specific to the manager. Monsanto has a people from many different cultures, so it is my opinion that you never know what kind of manager you will have to work with at the company.

    Pros

Challenging & interesting work, team-environment, professional. Good comradity

    Cons

Sometimes there is dysfunction in the workplace with the entire focus on meeting deadlines and having to make compromises that negatively impact quality.

    Advice to Management

Articulate a clear set of goals and vision. Keep everyone focussed on these and get rid of extraneous, non-value added tasks that keep us from achieving success

    Pros

I'm truly at a loss for a single pro. There are turkeys that walk around campus so I suppose that is neat.

    Cons

Extremely micro managed. Employee vs contractor treatment. Forced days off use all vacation for contract employees while employees receive 2 weeks paid each year. Contractors lose their vacation time if they're lucky enough to have any. IT is the most mis managed conglomerate department you'll ever witness. Would not recommend this to an enemy.

    Advice to Management

Monitor middle management and their treatment of contractors. Hire more FTE.

    Pros

Employee friendly. Matrix organization and therefore visibility is very good into other teams and jobs. The benefits are amazing.

    Cons

Driving around campus is a challenge getting to and from meetings. The campus spans two sides of the highway and no way other than by car to reach the other side. Company growth is amazing, sometimes daunting when you are new and trying to learn.

    Advice to Management

Town Halls are fantastic. Great way to keep up on all of the global events and strides by people as well as R&D.

    Pros

Some really great, nice and caring people work here Serious devotion to safety People who work here are passionate about finding better ways to feed the world Relaxed dress code Good Benefits Decent holidays and vacation time Ability to occasionally work from home Some employees make great coin and terrific bonuses, but not everyone

    Cons

Extremely political work environment. Heart-achingly, soul-crushingly political. Network or die. Disproportionately focused on diversity. If you are not female or minority and you are not in sales or a scientist, good luck. Monsanto saves money by relying on employees remaining contractors for multiple years. "The Monsanto Culture" = Don't rock the boat. Work-Life balance is good, but managers do not model it making you feel guilty or anxious about doing it Inconsistency. Sometimes a position is posted, sometimes a person is just promoted to it. It depends on what management wants to do.

    Advice to Management

Share the wealth. Commit to developing talent from within. There are a lot of great people in Monsanto who are overlooked when the first instinct is to recruit from other companies or from colleges.
