I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Difficult to say, though their food service is good and they have a relatively new fitness center that is nice as well.

    Cons

Data science is mostly in IT and their IT group is not competent at even the most basic levels of data management, not to mention service delivery. If you try to work with the business experts, you literally get screamed at by management. Here I am in one of the most in-demand fields, I have experience and ability, but Monsanto IT is so determined to be at war with the business that if you collaborate, you are sleeping with the enemy. They do not get analytics at all and the people they have leading it are just so inept at basic interaction with the business that the business is distrustful to even work with them.

    Advice to Management

I am leaving as soon as I get a new job. Your IT area is just way too much of a mess for someone with a viable skillset to deal with. I don't think any advice I give will help, because folks that have been here a long time say "it has always been this way" just wait a while and the business leaders will swap jobs and you won't have to worry about issues. What a totally crummy way to run a division.

    Pros

Professional and Personal Growth Career Opportunities Benefits Flexibility

    Cons

Very political environment Lean teams and compromised quality Inexperienced people leaders with no desire to lead exist in some departments

    Advice to Management

There should be career opportunities for individuals not interested in people leader roles. People leaders should want to be in the role and not placed there due to tenure or because it's frowned upon to only want to be an individual contributor.

I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some fun coworkers, benefits are not too bad and there is a daycare center on-site.They have a really good cafeteria as well.

    Cons

Kind of a humorless, drab place. Probably because they are cutting the budgets to the bone and a lot of people I considered to be top-notch coworkers have left. There's a weird vibe where management and HR go around saying how great everything is, when you can see with your own eyes it isn't. Be careful if you don't play along, because there willl be problems if you're not a 24/7 cheerleader for the status quo.

    Advice to Management

It's tough to say. You can tell the culture is changing and you can tell it's not for the better, but it's tough to put your finger on it. Part of it is management's true distaste for a lot of the people that work for them. The other is Monsanto religious belief that you have to have a PhD to manage here and PhD's are really horrid at producing anything and even worse at people/management skills. I'm looking really hard myself, so I'll be one less issue for them as well.

    Pros

    Access to up-to-date lab equipment.

    Cons

The fact that Monsanto will exploit contractors and use them for years and years without any intent on direct hire creates a toxic culture at Monsanto.

    Pros

Focus on development, quality people, and sound leadership. This is a great plane to work and grow. This is your company if you have any interest in farming technology.

    Cons

Accountability due to matrix organization. Need to update working facilities and environment to foster innovation and attract top talent from top schools.

    Advice to Management

Update to 2015 innovation friendly environment.
