Pros
opportunities to travel internationally, exposure to many cultures around the world, most colleagues are really down to earth and genuinely nice, flexible schedules, good opportunities to advance and make more money, good benefits, always changing and interesting issues to deal with
Cons
time away from family, pressure to move to corporate headquarters
Advice to Senior Management
explain to people what your career path plans are for the individual (respond to all internal job applicants, even if negative) - I know 3 people who chose to leave the company because they applied for an internal job and never heard anything; in most cases the reason for not promoting would probably have been enough for the individual to understand and accept.
Pros
Good pay
Good benefits
Work life balance
Cons
Poor leadership
Poor communication regarding strategies
Poor decision making
Advice to Senior Management
When there are fundamental problems with the company, lay offs heavily biased towards the lower pay scales probably won't fix the problem.
Pros
The science is extremely interesting and to be able to impact what people eat and the way agriculture is being done is cutting edge and exciting. The people are great and the work environment one of cooperation. It is probably the nicest thing to come to to work. I also like the fact that I was able to take a little over 4 months off for maternity leave and I have a fairly flexible schedule. I definitely work more than 40 hrs each week but I am able to do some work from home, which helps with balancing out life/work.
Cons
Because our projects are in agriculture we have no control over weather issues...that can impact how our projects perform in the field...and ultimately how a project is rated during a review....
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the communication open. The last couple of years have been really great.
