I worked at Monster Worldwide (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They will take you on pretty entry level providing you diverse exposure. People quitting left and right gives you a chance to do more because someone needs to do the work that is left behind. The group of friends I made here was phenomenal- company has a knack for hiring people in who fit with current teams. Kitchen in Weston is awesome, hiking trails are cool, and best of all is that you can shoot the breeze with friends for as long as you want every day and they don't care. Social aspect was a huge plus until you realize it's a career killer. I preferred talking to the janitors and kitchen staff over my koolaid drinking co-workers.

    Cons

Zero succession planning. You'd need to be in a favorites club to move up even if you are objectively the best fit for an advancement opportunity. No tolerance for individualism or current organizational behavior trends. No manager training which means the managers are low to mid level and never get good at delegating, motivating or thinking outside the box. Silly "processes" that are not followed or upheld which when noticed, makes no one take them seriously. Lastly, this employee population is also generally very unhealthy which is probably why the health insurance is so poor. Tons of smokers ripping buts all day and traveling in packs to designated smoking areas, overweight people, no health programs or incentives.

    Advice to Management

You're too money hungry with a lack of company purpose or direction to improve at this point. Would need a drastic change in identity to be a good place to work. Lastly.....stop with the silly dress code. You are a software company, the ties aren't fooling customers who can't see you over the phone.

I have been working at Monster Worldwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Monster is a fairly relaxed company that won't stress your energy levels a lot. It is quite easy to keep a decent work-life balance here. Most of the co-workers are easy to get along with, and a significant part of the mid- and upper management are open to ideas, friendly, and understanding.

    Cons

First and foremost, Monster has lost its niche years ago. It grew complacent and others have taken its place. Monster works hard to get by, and work here is mostly about retaining existing customers than about bringing in new ones. If you're a tech or IT person, don't expect new technologies or progressive and fun projects. Most of the programming code is 5+ years old, and messy. If you're a manager-type of person and look to bring something positive, get ready for endless rounds of backstabbing, blame wars, and intrigue.

    Advice to Management

Look hard at your own people. Consistency, drive, and will to change should be critical to everyone at this point, if you want to turn things around. Get rid of those who just sit around idly, and stop being scared of change, yourself. Monster needs to truly reinvent itself, not just change logo.

    Pros

Monster employs great people and I was fortunate enough to work with some great folks.

    Cons

It's a struggle to sell for a brand that has a poor perception in the marketplace. Although, Monster has some great solutions to offer, the brand suffers from poor perception.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Monster Worldwide full-time

    Pros

    - I had an excellent Manager and a great opportunity to grow - The days were tedious but always had good opportunities to go out and sell some stuff - A lot of Inbound leads and opportunities to make money for the company - A great building to work in with a free gym and great cafeteria selection - If they like you and you work hard there are plenty of opportunities to move up in the company and develop a good career

    Cons

    - The commission package is unreal - after 6 months I only hit the number once - Expect 30% growth YOY - Only not in fear of your job if you hit over 95% of your number - Unrealistic quotas - Force you to sell certain products in order to make certain percentages of your commission money - Think that the same sales plan fits every market type - not interested in having different plans for each market segment

    Advice to Management

My manager was fantastic but higher managers need to talk to the younger employees more and make them all feel included - kind of an old boys club up top
