I have been working at Monterey Mushrooms full-time

    Pros

This is an entrenched company that will be around for a long time. Very few people are fired or laid off unless they practically kill someone.

Senior management is aging which will soon create many good opportunities.

    Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Salaries and benefits are not the best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a long-term compensation plan that is attractive to young workers and encourages them to stay with the company. Vesting sign-on bonuses, sabbaticals, progressive 401(k) contributions, etc. would help encourage people to stay.

I have been working at Monterey Mushrooms full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay and Free pizza at drivers meeting

    Cons

When your out driving your told your going to be paid for detention or what ever a week later it's not on your check and by the time you get to the office (when someone's there and not out with personal problems) it's been another week then if they say oh yeah I remember it another week before it shows on your pay check if your lucky and time hasn't went in or they don't remember. I was owed a couple of hundred and it look a month!! And it's not steady one week you may work 6 days (rare) next week 2-4 (more common) and layover is a joke they will schedule a 12 hour day and when you run out of time and can't make it home it's your fault you couldn't make it home and ran out of hours (example you get 5-6 stops in Miami fl and you can't make it back , they don't care if you sat for 4 hours at 2 stops waiting to be unloaded) considered your fault because layover is only paid if no fault of the driver. Or you go to your appointment at 9am as on your paper work guess what your appt is at 2pm get stuck out your fault no layover even though dispatch messed the appt times up. If they do say that your owed something that wasn't on your check you better hope that sticker note don't get lost I had to go back 3 weeks in a row because that forgot to get all there sticky notes entered or it was covered by another sticky note.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time in the office where they are booking loads and attend a drivers meeting!

I have been working at Monterey Mushrooms full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are a lot of really nice people. The company itself is stable. Over-time is pretty much built in to the position around the holidays.

    Cons

The office atmosphere is very tense. The pay is below market value but you are expected to work twice as hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistency is key. Make rules and stick with them.

    Pros

To bad Morgan Hill is such a nice city

    Cons

You have to call 4-5 times each dispatcher and the supervisor and after that they will answer your call, or they will not call back; supervisor is covering for dispatchers if they make a mistake on your schedule, and will be your fault all the way; they will not admit the mistake but they stop working with if you come as a driver from outside the company, well they are related so they cover for the relatives, you are nobody, dispensable...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check from time to time with all the drivers that work for you, the ones that are hired by the company and the ones that are coming from agency, ask HR to give you an account of all the drivers in the last 6-12 months, give them a call see what they are saying about those people.

I worked at Monterey Mushrooms full-time

    Pros

    Good stability and job security.

    Cons

This company preaches about retaining talent and wanting to "be the best" when in fact management are all old men who have been with the company for 30 years. They do not recruit young talent let alone pay enough to bring in talented and experienced people. It is completely promote from within, so once you get to the top youre so set in your ways and how "things are" it becomes a road block. They go on and on about leadership development which is a joke. If the company actually put resources into its said values it would be a great but that is far from the truth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruit outside talent to actually grow and develop the company. Realize that its obvious that you do not practice what you preach and if those are the company values make them a reality. This company is so stuck in the past and not willing to give the resources needed for growth.
