A great name and a good place to learn & have a career

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Budapest (Hungary)

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than a year

ProsThe firm provides extensive learning opportunities both for graduates and experienced professionals. MS experience serves as a global passport - or one can stay and make a great career.

ConsHuge global company - this brings along slowness and inefficiency in many cases. Also, in the non-revenue-generating segments (i.e., back office) a lot depends on politics and face-showing instead of performance.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsMorgan Stanley has a great International Environment, with talented, young collegues. There is a strong emphasis on work-life balance, but it depends highly on the position.

ConsWork life balance is not ideal in some positions. Distance between senior management and employees is too wide in most cases. Senior management's communication with employees can be improved.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo have a good relationship with management it is recommended to join a committee with exposure to management.

Avoid it

Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than 5 years

Prosif you are lucky and in the right team you might learn a lot. People probably will be nice around you.

Consif you are a developer
- expect to be second grade citizen. Traders and managers come first then the rest.
- expect too many support issues. You can be called in the middle of the night.
- expect hard work with low compensation
- expect poor code quality (hence lot of maintenance / support issues)

appart from that work environment is prety poor. People work in overcrowded open area offices..

Advice to Senior Managementdon't take yourself too seriously

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Entry is easy but only if you're good enough you achieve to get the post you will like.

Trainee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Morgan Stanley as an intern

ProsMeritocratic, a center for knowledge, values loyality, deep-scans applicants, competitive salary, fair workload

ConsEasy to get to administrative roles you won't like, there you learn little and the ambiance is also worse. Rotation in your traineeship is obligatory even if you like the status quo. The HR is often incompetent.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet up some control for HR as they often mistreat people and behave in a way that ruins the MS reputation. Try to invest in your actual workforce and do not push them to be job hoppers - this is actually the way people get better offers. If you are loyal, you don't get promoted or get a raise.
