    Pros- Good infrastructure.
    - Good hardware to get the work done but bad support structure.

Cons- very bad focus on the process management
    - opaque access to management
    - manager knows to play politics - sides the subordinates and then flips coin to his manager,

Advice to Senior Management- learn to treat people as humans not commodites

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Vice President (Former Employee)
    Purchase, NY

ProsGood people. Most people trying to make the right things happen

ConsVery beaurocratic. Don't listen to front line managers. Will fire staff in a second to make financials better. Short term focus for managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the long term. Ride through the lows and be ready for the upswing.

Great place to learm and develop, excellent people.

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsCollaborative workplace, people very respectful of each other, work extra hours to fix problems. Enjoy the freedom to analyze and solve problems; not micromanaged by my boss.

ConsRuthless when it comes to firing people; departed colleagues are forgotten overnight. Compensation is poor. Very little interaction with senior managers. Stingy with money: company wont pay to celebrate a team success when rolling out a new solution.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo much bureaucracy; no sense of urgency when it comes to rolling out products and services. Inward focused organization; decision making is slow.

    Positive

    Manager (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThose that work hard and are willing to learn about their business will find enough projects to prove their worth

ConsThings are still in flux and will take years to settle in to a rhythm.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on the tech - don't stop improving and look to advice from the people that do the day to day work - their insight is invaluable...and generally more accurate.

    company with good benefits

Assistant Vice President Product Management (Former Employee)

ProsThey have decent benefits and compensation bonus.

Constoo many colleagues fighting for the same promotion. Fired many legacy Smith Barney folks. Manager wouldn't open his eyes to a huge opportunity ,despite Head of departments urge.

    - Great opportunity for those with many connections or family money

Cons- Very short time frame to build business before being let go

    - Company is only interested in very large accounts. This can be tough for someone starting out in the business.

Advice to Senior Management- Need administrative support for people in training

ProsFair compensation for daily work, great benefits and PTO.

ConsConsultant rotations make it hard to find someone who knows enough help complete complex projects on time.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect employees loyalty.

    Great people, but stagnant environment

    Wealth Management (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe people were really friendly and nice, and the work environment was overall very friendly and light. It's a small branch on 52nd street so it is easy to meet people and make a lot of connections.

ConsNowhere to really grow if you want to seek other opportunities within the branch. You can only go so far in Wealth Management. If you are unsure about the business, you should try exploring other opportunities.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Summer Intern, Okay Experience

    Intern (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGood introduction to the world of finance if you have little to no experience.

ConsThe job depends a lot on who you are assigned to. I had too little work and it was limited to mostly filing or helping the brokers use their computers. Other brokers took a little more time teaching their interns.

It's luck of the draw for who your are assigned to. When I was there they offered the interns a choice of doing a little bit of everything or specializing in operations or executive. The interns who choose the latter two were miserable and had little to know face to face time with anyone who could advance their career.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake more of curriculum for the interns, we had too little work to do.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
