    Pros

    Relatively easy-going, good chance to observe work environment, opportunity to network to an IB job.

    Cons

    Not many responsibilities, somewhat boring and monotonous. But what can they really make an undergrad intern do?

    Advice to Management

    More hands-on training would have been nice.

    I have been working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    There are some very talented and brilliant people at Morgan Stanley... it is a great place to learn and grow. Like any large corporation, it can be a great place to work, if you work for/with great people. They do foster an environment where mobility is encouraged; I know of several people who have been there for 15+ years in various roles over time.

    Cons

    Their HR pamphlet speaks of a "work/life balance" that the company supposedly promotes. In reality, in IT I have not seen that balance, particularly among infrastructure teams. I have seen people work 20+ hour weekend shifts with no sleep breaks. Also, it is very common in IT (more often than not) that people get promoted but do not get the salary bump to match it. Also, year-end bonuses in IT have been few and far between, and not very generous. I have seen many talented people leave for greener pastures at other companies.

    Advice to Management

    Compensate your talented people.

    flexible work arrangements where you can work remotely when necessary

    very very stressful. employees are expected to always be available even when on vacation

    Pros

    Great connections that will help you out if you put your heart and soul into what you do. People pick up quickly on how hard of a worker you are and will reward you for it.

    Cons

    Large and relatively rigid corporate structure with conventional-type offices. Very quiet working conditions where everyone is expected to be doing nothing but their work 100% of the time.

    Advice to Management

    I would try to have more positive perks instead of parties. Instead of softball parties where not everyone is included, try a gym membership included in benefits or healthy cooking classes.

    Decent Training program for FAA program. Management was supportive in early months

    Cons

    FAA hurdles can be aggressive in the first few months unless you have one or two decent prospects lined up from the beginning

    Pros

    The starting salary is not bad for a training program. Your benefits start on day one. Offices are nice.

    Cons

    Revenue and asset goals are very high. training is a bit lacking to properly prepare FA's to succeed. Very high turnover in the program.

    Advice to Management

    come up with a more reasonable and effective training program and you may have a more successful FAA program leading to a higher success rate.

    Morgan Stanley is one of the top firms to work for in the country

    In order to grow business, there has to be ability for young growth. That's hard to find here.

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers, nice location and very few good bosses.

    Cons

    Heavy favoritism to people who come in the door but not to the individuals who have been with the company for years. Its all about who you know in management to get you there. There use to be a lot of perks at Morgan Stanley but sadly all of them have went away over the years.

    Advice to Management

    Heavy turnover rate due to senior management overlooking long standing employees. They should start acknowledging the ones who have the most experience and do most of the work.
