Pros
Global reach, good for front office.
Cons
IB pigeon hole culture. Person with the right skill set in Ops cannot move laterally.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more flexible in terms of mobility for people with the right skills to move around.
Pros
A low benchmark by peers means it's relatively easy to do well. Pay very well for median performance and even better for great performance. Some charismatic leaders. Leading user of technology. Global standardised accounting protocals are a tribute to the great work by Trevor Harris and Vaughn Harvey.
Cons
Highly political, although that's the norm for the industry. Global approach means a lot of boring travel. Research has been emasculated in recent years. Hedge fund clients now run the strategy for the securities division. Poor IBD deal flow makes it harder to get corporate access.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember what gave a franchise in the first place ... the business is too broad and poorly focused.
