I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Loads of opportunity in terms of products, region, markets and services covered.

    Cons

Fast-paced global Company that is run extremely competitively means there is little room for anything other then executing, to high standard 100% of the time over 50+ hours a week - and that was just getting by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow building in more redundancy so everything is not run on the knife edge.

    I worked at Morgan Stanley

    Pros

Very strong collaborative culture, pretty low on politics. Nice environment to work in with supportive management. Good technology culture.

    Cons

There was high churn rate post 2007 with junior employees frustrated by static salaries and a lack of new projects.

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You can only progress with this company if you are nasty or evil and liked by incompetent and ignorant management who couldn’t seem to do anything right.

    Cons

Career suicide. Nasty environment with bullying mentality. You are only good when you are young and healthy, Soon you reach 40, have a problem with your health or you decided to voice you concerns or else they will get rid of you within a few weeks or months. Employer's loyalty does not exist and you are treated like an animal.

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I worked in Securites Operations and I can honestly say I cannot think of 1 pro - I had a miserable time there

    Cons

Far too much focus on bell curve management and inexperienced managers who have never worked anywhere else trying to mange people using powerpoints from senior leaders.
You have to be in the 'in crowd' or have a military background to progress.
Compensation - you feel its bad when you are there, but that gets confirmed it when you leave for a 25% increase................

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace some of the 20 year Operational Directors who have no other industry experience, who are all scared to leave because of either share options or fear of the unknown - some of these individuals are clueless but manage their teams by creating a culture of fear - disagree with them and you get labelled a 'low performer' - this firm doesn't encourage free thinking.
