Pros
- Great office & location
- Smart & enthusiastic work force
- Accessible higher management
- Encouraged to be proactive and progress
Cons
- Pay is average, you can earn more elsewhere within financial services within similar roles
- Can be a bit too laid back.
- Non-organic growth in UK can make it difficult for progress (some due to the recession)
Advice to Senior Management
Be more structured with staff and career paths. Due to the wide and flat hierarchy coupled with fast growth, staff can simply use Morningstar as a stepping stone rather than a genuine place for long career prospects.
Pros
It is a very good company to work for
Cons
The salary is pretty low than the industry
Pros
[1] Informal, University-like work culture
[2] Lots of collaboration and learning within teams
[3] Open communication between management and employees at most levels
Cons
Nothing that particularly stands out.
Pros
Working environment is great, never doing long hour at the office, flexibility is a culture.
Recognisition when good work is being done.
Opportunities to grow and learn.
Cons
Salaries could be better and also carrear plan in not existing. In adition non-US offices are not participating from all the company benefits.
Pros
Lifestyle is good
Friendly People and staff.
Cons
Understaffed coupled with the inability and unwillingness to hire equates to a difficult time during busy periods. HR appear to be stubborn and unrepentant with so called 'development policies', even though these policies seem to be more verbal than actionable. Ironically, the flexibility of a rotational program is hampered by the efforts made to reinforce them. A remarkably high turnover rate should be indicative of a situation not working but instead exiting personnel are the point of blame. This is highlighted in the below statement.
Advice to Senior Management
Please review your staffing policies, staffing roles and graduate programs. There is a understanding that the needs of the business need to be nourished however when one is bypassed for a particular position in favor of a unknown external candidate, it is greatly insulting. This could potentially lead to a message that diligence isn't rewarded and neither is loyalty - resulting in high turnover rates.
Pros
MBA Tution benefit
Good Health care
6 Week Sabbatical after 4 yrs of employment
Cons
Salary is at least 30% below Market rate. Management wont agree to this. Recently they got consultants to help them review employer salaries and benefits and found that employers are underpaid. The management always has an excuse that the company grew too fast in very short span. If that's the case then employees at Facebook, Groupon, Google should be working for free! The growth that Morningstar has seen in last 10 years, the above companies have seen 10 months. Low salary is just an excuse to get cheap untrained labor. The senior management that has been with the company for more than decade get very well paid.
Incompetent Managers - Some of the Product Managers, Team leaders are totally incompetent. Just because they have been with the company for over 10 yrs get the position.
Too much politics - No body would admit this but even a dumb person who works at Morningstar would realize that Politics is what is killing this Company.
Advice to Senior Management
If the CEO and Presidents are really serious about the success of the Company, should try to cut the politics that is chocking company.
Reward employers with salary that is at least in line with the market rate.
Pros
free soda and flexible working hours.
Cons
low income long hours and low pay

Pros
Good company to work for. Good life/work balance. Great company culture.
Cons
Compensation package is not very competitive.
Advice to Senior Management
Good communication between top executives and employee.
Pros
Good and flexible working hours. A lot of time after work. Great benefits. CFA and Booth MBA are two things many people pursue at Morningstar. Flat working structure. Welcoming environment and good morale. People are helpful. One can excel and will be recognized if you put effort into it.
Cons
Below average compensation. Unclear salary policy. Career advancement to middle-level and up seems limited. Less structured in day-to-day management. Hard to get things done if you don't push for it. Work is financial service-related but less tangent to finance than people would think.
Pros
Casual environment, somewhat flexible work days, great facility and location, free beverage service (latte, espresso, dunkin drip coffee, soda fountain drinks, teas, etc.), open floor plans with plenty of light for everyone, intelligent and hardworking people and an ethical CEO.
Cons
At times, those in low-profile roles may feel overworked and underappreciated. Investment in employee training and development is almost nonexistent.
Advice to Senior Management
Make it clear to middle management that on-the-job training and skill development is important and should never be overlooked. Much more time and resources should be appropriated for investmentment and development of employees.
