    Pros

    Great teaching hospital, collaborative environment between the different disciplines, Shared Governance model is empowering, a lot of autonomy for nurses.

    Cons

    Can be very corporate, paperwork/documentation heavy in my area, the ED has been a mess and it affects my area (and all others), communication can be an issue, the hospital is so big and they keep doing construction- I've been there forever but I don't where many things are!

    Advice to Management

    Carefully consider if another piece of paper is necessary before adding it to the pile of things that need to be completed upon admission/each shift, give each unit rep a printed map of the hospital to share with vistors (and staff), do something about the ED please!

    Pros

    Amazing facility, strives to constantly be up to date with care and equipment. Strives to satisfy customers.

    Cons

    Management expects everyone to be a workaholic. To stay on top they are always instituting new protocols and requirements, which adds to the workload, but they don't compensate or increase staff to handle it. Their 'the patient is always right' attitude sometimes allows staff to be abused by patients and forced staff to put up with it to ensure patient satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more staff so your employees don't get so burned out.

    Good work environment, pleasant people

    Cons

    As a staff nurse almost no breaks, eat lunch at your post.

    Advice to Management

    Make sure icu nurses get their breaks and pay yhem if they don't.

    Pros

    Highly skilled and professional co-workers; Clinical supervision usually high quality; Sincere caring about clients, not just numbers. Opportunities for growth. Employee feedback usually taken into consideration. Role as a teaching hospital positively impacted level of care and continuing education opportunities for clinical staff.

    Cons

    Competition for grant monies unfortunately caused some excellent services to no longer be available at MMH. There was a need for increased support staff so as to free up clinicians to provide clinical services without so great a percentage of time being spent on the non-clinical tasks.

    Pros

    Great support system. Can take advantage of the numerous education and CEU opportunities- pay is excellent- especially for new grads in the area. Majority of patients are from the surrounding area and thus the patient population is usually NOT urban.

    Cons

    Employees tend to complain but not because of anything valid. They're just complainers in general. Unfortunately they are the ones who been at the hospital way too long and haven't taken an interest to magnet nursing or higher education.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the nurses who aren't willing to cooperate with magnet nursing and shared governance. Stop being clicky and give opportunities to those you may not necessarily like.

    Good employee compensation and benefits. 12 hour shifts working 3 days a week for nurses.

    Cons

    Heavy workload - management expects employees to punch out on time and complete work off the clock Low employee morale

    Advice to Management

    Please have enough staff scheduled so that employees are not overloaded with work. A happy workforce will definitely raise your bottomline.

    Health benefits have suited my needs. Merit-based raises have been consistent.

    Pros

    Great opportunities for advancement. Flexible schedules available. Incredible menu of company paid benefits, including in house pharmacy, subsidized cafeteria, paid scubs. Management holds quarterly meetings with entire staff to convey long range plans and goals. Innovative intranet site that is content rich, a valuable resource for staff. Opportunities for advancement exist for motivated employees.

    Cons

    Workload can be heavy for staff assigned. Job openings often take long time to fill, leaving staff burdened. Base pay could be better. Change is often initiated without considering imput of staff most closely affected by the change.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to solicit feedback from staff to improve morale and workflow in departments.
