I have been working at Moscow State University

ProsWork-life balance, you can do interesting things. For example, research different areas. Very good and nice people are working there.

ConsVery poor salary. It so poor, that you do not see it at all. But instead you get experience and plenty of free time.

Not good for innovative people

Researcher (Current Employee)
Moscow (Russia)

I have been working at Moscow State University full-time for more than a year

ProsHuge organization with many facilities, lots of possibilities for governmental projects, stable salary, most researchers are nice persons, lots of young people from first year students up to PhD

ConsExtremely overloaded paper work, the organization is too inertial, lots of instances doing nothing but trying to make you filling some papers; any organizational changes are strongly disliked

A good place to get a lot of experience and international professional connections

Researcher (Current Employee)
Moscow (Russia)

I have been working at Moscow State University full-time for more than a year

ProsDealing with professionals and world-class scientists.
A high-level education that broadens ones mind. It's not What you learn but rather the Way you learn and also that you learn to self-educate efficiently.
Depending on your research supervisor you may acquire valuable international collaboration experience, be sent on a few academic missions to some of the world's best laboratories.
Getting many friend that would succeed in their careers all over the world.
The University is located in one of the best places in Moscow (also very good for sports).

ConsVery poor financing and resource base for experimental sciences.
You have to fight your way through all the bureaucracy to get some scarce financing.
The amount of experience, publications and academic missions you'll get depends and the group you're in (or your research supervisor): some are world-class, others are in any way not.
Miserable salary/scholarship at almost all ranks. The only way to survive on your own is to get additional scholarships or participate in grants.

Good experience for young students.

Student (Former Employee)
Moscow (Russia)

I worked at Moscow State University part-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood environment inside the Department and strong education level. Many interesting subjects could be learned and most of them are very useful in further career.

ConsAs for a student, there is always problem with huge amount of work invested in the homeworks and classes. In Mat Sci department there is a need to make research from the very first year, which is tough.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou guys are doing great!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

MSU

Junior Researcher (Current Employee)

I have been working at Moscow State University

ProsAt MSU you can get only rather good education but nothing more,
I hope it is the best Russian educational institution, but compared with other world leading Institution MSU is very unpretentious

ConsVery low salary, obsolete equipment, old environment, impossibility to grow,
lack of opportunity to be developed by MSU,absence of prospects for young researchers

Advice to Senior ManagementLooking after their employees, Try to find money for supporting young researchers, be attentive,
and try to raise Russian science from the grave

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
