    Pros

The pay is (somewhat) competitive for the Triad area, as are the benefits. There are SOME good, trustworthy people that make great co-workers.

    Cons

Diagnostic Imaging dept. is, unfortunately, a mess. Unless you're "friends" with upper management and/or chosen by them for whatever particular reason, I've seen people who've served reliably and faithfully for years shut out and shut down when going for a promotion or even attempting to make a lateral move from one Imaging modality to another, myself included. I was effectively blocked out of another modality, after I spent a year of hard work and sacrifice to get certified in that modality. They actually hired a classmate of mine, who had no previous healthcare background, over me who'd been there for years, problem free, good performance reviews, no disciplinary action, excellent attendance record, etc., because the manager of that dept. personally didn't like me. Same thing when I tried to make a shift change; supervisor played favorites with who he wanted on his shift & upper management let him. Problem is, Cone is SOOO large everybody knows somebody there & they control half the Triad so if you get labeled negatively in any way whatsoever, you're career is seriously impacted.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately Cone is like all the major players in healthcare now: profit driven. Fancy slogans, upbeat corporate image and doublespeak aside, Cone is representative of the future of healthcare, a pure for profit venture despite anything else they may say. Management is the problem not the solution, there is no advice they would take and so, I have none to offer.

    Pros

It's better than unemployment, decent benefits, good opportunity to meet people from different walks of life.

    Cons

Management plays a lot of favoritism, no leadership skills, no integrity. Cone has a 6 month probation policy for new employees which basically means if management doesn't like you, you can be fired for any or no reason at all (in other words no job security). Human resources will not work in your favor, they cover for each other and will not return your calls if they don't like what you have to say. Now employees that management DOES like can get away with surfing the Internet while at work, taking personal calls all day and calling patients 'idiots' when they're not around, they lie to get you in trouble and talk about each other behind their backs. Totally unprofessional, worst place to ever work for. Salary is below average also.

    Advice to Management

Check in anonymously on your employees specially the ones in management, they abuse their authority. This company has so much turn over and negative reviews for good reason!

    Pros

Leadership is forthcoming and as transparent as is business prudent.

    Great benefits.

Large enough that there is room for advancement within the org.

    Cons

Sometimes communication gets lost because of size of organization.

Hard to connect and figure out leadership structure - lots of chiefs.

    Advice to Management

Follow what you preach - culture change starts with leadership. Excellent example of a leader in Mickey Foster!

    Cons

    No support for middle mnagement

    Advice to Management

Support your direct reports. Walk the talk and be transparent so that everyone can aim for the common goal. Support all of your middle managers and round on their staff - see what is truly going on in departments. Know your product!
