    Pros

Lots of talented employees in every department and on every level. Great health benefits, average PTO and average retirement matching. Paralegals and support staff are encouraged to be very involved in cases and provide input throughout all phases of cases. Offices and cubicles are nicely sized. The office itself is centrally located which makes for a decent commute. The view from the building is nice. The name/reputation of the firm looks great on a resume. End-of-year bonuses are equal to 1 or 2 weeks pay.

    Cons

Delegation is a primary theme throughout the firm. From members to associates, to paralegals and support staff - everyone delegates work to someone else or to another department if at all possible. Compensation: Overtime is required. Base salaries are very low, are based on Charleston area salaries and not based on the demands of working at a high-profile firm, with long & intense workdays and on complex cases with graphic material. Bonuses for staff are not merit based whatsoever. Technology: From hardware to software, to the case management system to the phone system - it's all out-dated. This makes basic tasks very difficult and a lot of time is spent recreating the wheel. Morale: The work environment is negative and team leaders refuse to take basic steps to improve morale.

    Advice to Management

Require folks on all levels of the firm to be individually accountable for tasks and cases. Update the technology and require everyone in the firm to learn basic computer skills. Appreciate worker bees and not just the king and queen bees running the hive. Provide merit based bonuses.

    Pros

Working to change and become more efficient. Great working hours - never working anywhere that had 37.5 hour work week Friendly employees and nice working atmosphere

    Cons

Lack of mentoring - everyone is too busy Lack of training for staff

    Advice to Management

Focus on training and hold staff accountable for continuous learning. Communication as to vision for the future is lacking and should be addressed so everyone understands the future direction of the firm.

    Pros

The work environment in the Mount Pleasant office is very good. Working hours are somewhat flexible and only 37.5 hours per week. Good 401k plan and medical insurance.

    Cons

Employee benefits are slowly decreasing each year. No vision insurance and dental insurance is limited. Employment is 'at will' and no notice or severance packages are offered.

    Advice to Management

Bring back severance packages and keep employees informed of impending cutbacks.

    Pros

Motley Rice has a national repuation as a leading litigation law firm.

    Cons

Unfortunately there are a few bad seeds placed in overall management that have run most of the great talent off. The support staff at the firm cares about each other and the clients, too bad the current direction of the managing attorneys do not.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Poor overall morale is a tell-tale sign that that people do not feel appreciated and respected.

    Cons

The company doesn't give very many raises. Underpaid individuals and lots of work.
