3) Not a very lean organization .
4) People high up are not technically oriented which is very much required in a technological company
Advice to Senior Management
Constantly upgrade the technical and the management skills. Be more agressive in terms of getting the market share and proftability with respect to the competitors like Cisco , Ericson and so on .
Pros
Pay, work environment, culture, people managers at lower end
Cons
Divisions given are irrelevant to preference - they play dutch with resumes, HR are in their own world, senior management fail to milk cows they raise, food is horrible

Cons
short term projects
not much option to change project/division if we are not happy about current project

Advice to Senior Management
long term projects creates better opportunities to work both for freshers and experienced people. appraisal system has to be redesigned.

Great package for freshers

Cons
Above all pros depends highly on the team one is in
gloomy future-- no clear roadmap
No mentoring to freshers
Have to take high risk to either stay comforably or learn and be prepared in case layoff happen which are quite common.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a clear picture of future goals
have direct communication to employees regard company deciions/spilt off and disallow rumours
Have to sustain fresh talent and mentor properly else Moto is gonna be no More!!!!
Pros
Need more better engineers and managers to make it more profitable, people and culture is great. Helpful, politics less people.
Cons
They keep firing, should have more planned way of employee managment. Should focus less on qualiy, more on productivity, performance.
Advice to Senior Management
They keep firing, should have more planned way of employee managment. Should focus less on qualiy, more on productivity, performance.
Pros
-Good amount of leaves
-Focus on getting expertise
-Recognition for innovation
Cons
-No 360 degree feedback, hence supervisor is never bothered about what u think.
-No effective knowledge sharing process
-No mentoring
Advice to Senior Management
Put 360 degree feedback across all levels and seniors should be made accountable for people below them.
Pros
Company HR policies which are rarely followed.
Cons
Too much political environment. Definitely not a good place if you dont know how to play a politician.
All sorts of process/policy violations. My team might gets the worst team award. No process. No policies. Only politics. All the metrics tweaked and US people give awards for good performance !!!
Advice to Senior Management
Please dont always decide with metrics. They are just graphs created by people to save themselves.
Pros
The work culture is excellent. People are relatively more courteous than at other firms. The work load is quite low and hence work-life balance should not be an issue. Depending on the group, you can have enough exposure to the latest technologies.
Cons
Highly political environment in India. Senior management in India has absolutely no competence - technical or managerial. They are rooted in conventional thoughts and do not dare to take bold steps to revitalize the organization. Promotions are based on politics and I have seen some people rise really fast just by playing politics. The senior mgmt functions like a government organization. I have never seen the managers do anything more than using a spreadsheet for assigning people to projects. Any efforts to improve technical competence are very shallow and fizzle out quickly. These efforts are normally taken only to include them in slides that are presented to the management in the US.
The work load is so low that people waste a lot of time. A single visit to the cafeteria at any time of the day should be sufficient to illustrate it. Over a period of time, individuals lose their ability to be sharp and intelligent and to work hard. When they move to other firms, they may find it difficult to survive.
The compensation is low, especially at lower employee levels. The mgmt doesn't show any interest in junior employees and it treats them like non-living things.
If you are from a good school and you are above average talent, this is definitely not the place for your first job. You can join Motorola India when you feel like retiring.
Advice to Senior Management
Please make the environment more meritocratic. Please realize that there are some really talented people below you in the organization and so give them a chance to take on critical roles. If you are not interested in work, my sincere advice would be for you to leave. The management in the US has to play a more proactive role in measuring the performance of offshore centers like those in India and appropriately take actions. Groups that perform well should be given due importance, more control, and competitive compensation. All employees should be provided challenging work and should be pushed harder. Cut down the flab and keep a nimble organization. Instead of hiring 100 mediocre people, hire 20 good talent. This will be both more productive and ensure lower costs. Junior employees should get the right first impression. This can happen by challenging work and adequate compensation. If you want to be a leading handset/network equipment company, stop comparing yourself with Wipro, TCS, and Infosys and start benchmarking with Google or Microsoft.
Pros
Emphasis on engineering, design and well established process
Opportunities to all in fair way in getting good work, promotions, perks etc.
Informal environment and co-operative environment to get your work done.
Encouragement for higher learning and achievements.
work life balance, thought not possible throughout the year.
Cons
Bad strategy and marketing.
Low utilization of middle level talent and long time people not working as much as they can.
No lateral movement possible for employees within the organization.
After couple of years, you feel doing the same thing again and again.
Advice to Senior Management
Strategy!! move with the time and use middle level talent more efficiently.
Reduce number of software centers or atleast change the development process so that there is costly coordination required by 20 centers to develop software for one phone.
Pros
Good work life balance,
No aggressive traget.
Cons
Politics is the main growth for people working here.
They simply fool the Top management in the U.S by showing tampered metrics.
Top Management who are located in india does not have vision.
Most of the Top management people are recruited from the govt org, who try to implement the same.
Advice to Senior Management
Please remove the top layer people, who does not produce result. Focus on technology , than process and putting all the beautiful chart to fool yourself, Ensure that the senior managment performance is tied to the customer satification. This people are good at twiking meterics to impress their boss.
