Advice to Senior Management
cut the middle management
Pros
Motorola Solutions has long and proud history of innovation in the public safety related communications products. The company has a great work culture. People have great respect for each other.
Cons
Company needs to accelerate innovation and promote more creativity from within. Complacency among some of its groups will be detrimental for the company. It needs to be much ahead of its competitors to retains its market share.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to create new programs that encourages and promotes innovation in both business models as well as in grassroots technology.
Pros
great learners place , nice working environment
Cons
low pay , bad management , exhausting work
Advice to Senior Management
identify talent and keep them
Pros
Very smart people in engineering and management. Generally good people to work with on cool technology. Starting salaries are generally good.
Cons
Things tend to become unraveled as commitments made by senior leadership to carriers and the market cause breakdowns in order. Portfolio planning in non-existent. Corporate VPs are often unwilling to make decisions or tough trade-off decisions with a direct order from the CEO. Communication with the business is often poor, to the detriment of the products and completeness of Motorola's offerings.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on developing internal leadership talent. Stop hiring so many Palm cast-offs and select leaders from the outside for their ability to provide contrarian viewpoints. Remaking Palm within the Software Development organization will not lead to Palm-like success. (Maybe it will, but Palm was a flash in the pan, right?)
Pros
Good compensation, benefits and vacation time.
Cons
Very few people with leadership skills in upper managment
Advice to Senior Management
.
Pros
Experience working in a large, corporate environment.
Cons
LOTS of redtape!! I understand it is difficult for a large corporation to remove some of the issues with internal teams working with one another, but the company can be so much more efficient!
Pros
Development opportunities such as educational assistance
On site 24-hour gym and exercise classes
Active business councils: women, Asian, African-American, etc.
Good work-life balance
Flexible work options: work from home
Great benefits package
Cons
Not a lot of assistance with career path navigation
Promotions and raises may be harder to come by here than in other organizations
Organization is extremely technical
Advice to Senior Management
Frequent communication with leadership through meetings and emails
I have confidence in senior leadership's ability to strategically drive the organization
Pros
Motorola has a long history of innovation and is a respected name in telecommunications. There are opportunities to make significant contributions to new products and technologies.
Cons
The stress level can be very high in bad times, especially when downsizing. There have been numerous layoffs in the past few years to offset poor financial performance.
Pros
Good pay and benefit. Generous paid time off.
Cons
Too many layoffs. Industry is going down hill. Leaders have no vision.
