Pros
Small teams..great learning experience.. Goood teaching.. The workers respect each other a lot. They allow flexible timings and understanding people
Cons
Not that great strategy. Need to improve it
Pros
Great pay and benefits. Great people to work with.
Cons
Senior staff is more concerned with their piece of the pie
Advice to Senior Management
No advice. It's probably too late
Pros
For the most part, there is autonomous leadership. For the most part, the people at Motorola are good and decent people looking to do the right thing for the company.
Cons
The management team often makes decision to benefit their own personal silos instead of building collaboration across the company. They often will start and stop projects without thinking about the long term impacts. Incredibly frustrating to the teams working on those projects and no sense of long term strategy.
Advice to Senior Management
Identify a direction and lead the team down that direction. Adjust when the company needs long term strategic adjustment but don't sacrifice the long term direction just to meet the short term quarterly earnings.
Pros
Nice work environment and facilities. We learn a lot while working which enables us to work for higher level in the hierarchy.
Cons
Sometimes, few issues remain unsolved or are solved temporary in hurry at deadline. Hence, these issues reappear with major issue in future development.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is very good. They are very talented. They encourage juniors to work for higher hierarchy. In that, they help a lot.
Pros
dynamic CEO trying to revive the company
great place to do innovative work if you are the star
Cons
Over aggressive commitments, if you are not an engineer you are a second tier employee.
Management only controls cost via employee layoffs... not a good morale booster
Great buy-out agreement with Google, but typical employees benefited far less than CEO's $62M opportunity
Advice to Senior Management
If employees are truly the most important resource, you should be managing cost better to avoid the continual layoffs :(
Pros
it's a friendly environment to work
Cons
poor senior management and no inspiration
Pros
Work and home balance was a nice benefit, most teams were given the option to work from home at least one day a week.
Cons
too many lay offs with a false hope of security. Because of the staff cuts, employees are required to work too many hours in order to make deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop all the work force reductions! What staff is left is having to work too many hours to make required deadlines.
Pros
Motorola - very good brand name which have a global value to put in the resume
Excellent technical experience which you can earn by working with real engineers
Good pay and benefits
Cons
Relative Performance Review is not good. No Team work and no information sharing.
Lot of Immigrants in Motorola which is promoting unhealthy competition.
No ethics in work from team members and managers.
Do not trust team members because of Relative Performance Review.
Advice to Senior Management
STOP unhealthy competition and stop employing H1 visa holders.
STOP outsourcing work to other countries.
Pros
-When I was there from 1995-2009, there was a great camaraderie among the co-workers in middle management and below. It truly was a 'family'.
- Many of my co-workers were highly competant and independent workers, which made working with them a pleasure.
- I was given many opportunities for advancement and career growth.
-My compensation and benefits package was great.
-Work-life balance was great
- Most of my direct managers over the years I worked there were good managers
Cons
- Senior management has really led to the downfall of Motorola (Mobility specifically which is where I worked the entire time). The constant change of senior management, along with their constant change in strategy, followed by years of layoffs, has led to a discouraged, overworked workforce with low morale.
- When I left in 2009, many of my co-workers who were my 'family' there had left and most of them have now left since I did. There is almost an entirely new workforce and I have heard that the working atmosphere has changed drastically.
- Now that Google has acquired Motorola Mobility, it's hard to discern what will happen as far as a future for working there (specifically Libertyville, IL) depending on what Google's strategy for purchasing Motorola is. So there is still an unpredictable job future.
- Layoffs are still continuing.
Advice to Senior Management
Hard to offer advice due to the extreme changes in events, especially with Google's purchase of Motorola Mobility. I hope they hold onto the hardware teams since there are some excellent employees there who have a ton of talent to contribute.
Pros
Learn from very experienced smart people. Good for young engineers.
Cons
Management style rigid. Needs to compete with changing technologies.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring in younger managers
