Pros
it's a friendly environment to work
Cons
poor senior management and no inspiration
Pros
Motorola was an exciting place to work with a very diverse employee population. There was ample opportunity for growth.
Cons
Key corporate leaders were incompetent. They missed the mark on product development and market opportunities leading to the demise of the company. The final years were in a constant state of downsizing to meet the profitability goals. It was sad to see the company slowly decline. It was once a GREAT company and a wonderful place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
I think it is too late. The damage is done.
Pros
Work and home balance was a nice benefit, most teams were given the option to work from home at least one day a week.
Cons
too many lay offs with a false hope of security. Because of the staff cuts, employees are required to work too many hours in order to make deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop all the work force reductions! What staff is left is having to work too many hours to make required deadlines.
Pros
Opportunity to learn and act
Cons
Poor communication between Management and employees
Advice to Senior Management
Improve employee+Management relationship
Pros
Motorola - very good brand name which have a global value to put in the resume
Excellent technical experience which you can earn by working with real engineers
Good pay and benefits
Cons
Relative Performance Review is not good. No Team work and no information sharing.
Lot of Immigrants in Motorola which is promoting unhealthy competition.
No ethics in work from team members and managers.
Do not trust team members because of Relative Performance Review.
Advice to Senior Management
STOP unhealthy competition and stop employing H1 visa holders.
STOP outsourcing work to other countries.
Pros
decent pay, some departments are nice to work for, benefits are average, has amenities at facility.
Cons
your just a number. constant lay offs, you are never safe, no communication, no personal life what so ever, you are expected to live and breath for work only. Moto does not care about any of their employees. Favoritism is enormous, constant back stabbing goes on daily.
Advice to Senior Management
get rid of the lousy managers in several departments and there are just too many managers for an area.
Pros
You feel as a part of the team to improve the quality and target goals for each day we worked.
Cons
Motorola hires through temporary agents to staff most employees and unfortunately it is very hard to get a permanent posittion for job stability.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe that management should pay more attention to their temporary staff employee's work performance and when they achieve the goals that they are expected to perform, they should be rewarded by being offered a permanent positition within the company so they can be part of the team.
Pros
-When I was there from 1995-2009, there was a great camaraderie among the co-workers in middle management and below. It truly was a 'family'.
- Many of my co-workers were highly competant and independent workers, which made working with them a pleasure.
- I was given many opportunities for advancement and career growth.
-My compensation and benefits package was great.
-Work-life balance was great
- Most of my direct managers over the years I worked there were good managers
Cons
- Senior management has really led to the downfall of Motorola (Mobility specifically which is where I worked the entire time). The constant change of senior management, along with their constant change in strategy, followed by years of layoffs, has led to a discouraged, overworked workforce with low morale.
- When I left in 2009, many of my co-workers who were my 'family' there had left and most of them have now left since I did. There is almost an entirely new workforce and I have heard that the working atmosphere has changed drastically.
- Now that Google has acquired Motorola Mobility, it's hard to discern what will happen as far as a future for working there (specifically Libertyville, IL) depending on what Google's strategy for purchasing Motorola is. So there is still an unpredictable job future.
- Layoffs are still continuing.
Advice to Senior Management
Hard to offer advice due to the extreme changes in events, especially with Google's purchase of Motorola Mobility. I hope they hold onto the hardware teams since there are some excellent employees there who have a ton of talent to contribute.
Pros
Good place to work at
Cons
Leadership can improve to improve profitability
Advice to Senior Management
Improve leadership in mid-level management
Pros
Learn from very experienced smart people. Good for young engineers.
Cons
Management style rigid. Needs to compete with changing technologies.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring in younger managers
