Pros
For me, the pay and benefits were good. I enjoyed the people I worked with on projects.
Cons
My management over the last 5 years was horrible and disconnected. It was a giant political game and one where my manager would step and crush anyone to make sure their job was preserved. There was a huge lack of communication from the executive management down.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing, because they would not listen anyway. Management will continue to do what they want, when they want and to whom they want.

They need to make this company more people company, stop sending jobs to India and China, it is killing the moral of the workers.

Work culture is great. Mgmt is very accommodating with respect to work hours/place.

Company has way too many mgmt folks..this is supposed to be a technology company but its sad to see that this is turning out to be bureaucratic corporation.
Advice to Senior Management
Start laying off half the mgmt including the CEO, hire more technically competent people. Provide a good road map for the company and think in terms of creating more synergy between various businesses instead of breaking the company.

Advice to Senior Management
If we eliminated the CEO position, we'd be $150M better off and no worse for quality management..
Product and project management do not do anything and should be eliminated. Bring customers in and have them talk to engineers and engineering mgmt.
Pros
Flexible (maybe too flexible) work hours, generous time off.
Cons
Development jobs continue to be moved offshore. Morale non existent. Most managers think the heavy handed approach is best. Senior leadership cannot inspire. Training and travel budget non-existent.

Invest in your domestic human capital.

Motorola regularly launches initiatives that push into leading edge technologies.
Cons
Motorola has a hard time following through with its initiatives. It is difficult-to-impossible to bring together a complete end-to-end solution because of internal silos which focus on individual "boxes." Also, Motorola's deficiencies in developing usable user interfaces makes it very difficult for Motorola to sell into markets that are technology-based but increasingly consumer-oriented. Recent economic conditions also mean Motorola is focusing only on products that it can sell within the next year. This additionally limits its ability to innovate. (Note that these comments apply to the infrastructure side of Motorola, not the cell phones -- which are a completely different kettle of fish.)
Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management must communicate its strategy for the company. Communication from Greg Brown has been essentially non-existent. As a result, the company appears to be foundering, pushed around randomly by every economic wind and lost contract.
Pros
It's a great opportunity to gain experience in the industry and make extensive contacts. All future employers will have heard of Motorola. The benefits are fairly competitive when compared to the industry. The products are cool and if you would like to change industries, you can go from set top boxes, to cell phones, to two way radios. The corporate culture is ethical and focuses on proper treatment for everyone. There are many locations to work at and I've worked at four, three in IL and one in Texas. Overall, the company has good leadership and good opportunities for advancement.
Cons
Constant worrying about job stability. Many layoffs tend to stifle employee morale and makes people unproductive while they talk around the water cooler. Also, the software for the products seems to be slow and has lots of problems. The products are made well in a hardware sense but not in the software sense. The food cafe is cool but the prices seems to be a little on the high side. I would expect that the company could afford to reduce prices but I guess they hire food works to do it so oh well. I need just three more words.
Advice to Senior Management
Morale suffers greatly with so many changes. Find a plan and stick with it. Enough of the 5 "C"s or twelve "M"s or whatever cute acronym is next to describe the semi annual policy change
