Pros
- Learning opportunites: lot of knowledgeable and willing to share people
- High technological challenges: lot of opportunties to optimize technology
- Diversity rich company
- True distributed company: very easy to get involved into multi-disciplinary multi-regional teams
Cons
- No strong management: no real owner of a strategy
- Lack of strategy visibility: too much distributed decision process
- Lack of efficient decision process: "don't take a no as a no"
- Difficulty in understanding markets outside of the US: not enough of local markets is fed back and acknowledged in strategy and product decisions
- Taking decisions too late, so that they are hard each time
- Changing strategy too often: good in micro execution, not in macro execution.
Advice to Senior Management
- Communicate
- Be franck and crystal clear
- Listen to non US employees, they are the best company's resource to help understand the local trends and markets
Pros
Motorola has a long history and has already demonstrated its ability to revolution the telecoms. It is possible to maintain this "innovation spirit" and to stay a pioneer in the telecoms, but only if the senior management makes the effort of trying to understand what the employees are working on and what they are able to accomplish.
Cons
No connection between my work and the Motorola products.
The senior management doesn't understand and doesn't mind anything of my team's work: there is a kind of cut of communication between my direct management and the senior management.
The senior management does not have any vision of the company's future : they don't know what to do, they only manage the company on a day-to-day basis, they are not able to build long or middle term projects.
The senior management doesn't understand anything to the market trends and challenges : they clearly don't see where the competitors go, how the market is evolving and what the consumers want.
Advice to Senior Management
The senior management should be more closer to the employees, should develop better skills in strategy and have a better understanding of the technologies developed by the company.
