I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be able to take total charge of a project quickly. Leadership is always willing to assist.

    Cons

Not enough emphasis on formal training. Most of the learning was OJT. Too many convoluted procedures for equipment lists and actually assembling the system in the factory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider upfront training prior to assigning Program Managers. Streamline the entire design, assembly, and testing processes.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Vacation starts at 4 weeks but includes sick time, global corporation, 3% 401k matching when contributing 6%. Telecommuting is standard.

    Cons

Negative work environment, do more with less, management replacing experienced people with less experienced people at lower costs. There is currently little opportunity for advancement when cutting costs and reducing staff. Most senior management doesn't have a clue, they are disconnected and are only competent at corporate mumbo jumbo. Also new health plan requires employees to maintain BMI at normal ranges or lose 5% weight per year to receive discount.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to individual contributors they actually do the work.

    Pros

benefits are good, pay is good, and I feel employees are treated well

    Cons

it is a job, so naturally you have to work. Most managers are very understanding and will help you work through issues you may have.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible schedules. I love that you can work from home. Managers don't micro-manager. It doesn't matter from where you get the job done, as long as the job gets done on time.

    Open door policy from managers

Co-workers are quick and eager to share their knowledge and experiences.

    Good work-life balance.

    Sense of stability

    Cons

    Growth is not as fast

    Loosely structured development programs/trainings.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits. Excellent marketshare for their land mobile radio (LMR) business with the federal government.

    Cons

One trick pony with LMR and "old white guy" culture that does not embrace pursuit of newer technologies. A very cliquish culture of long-time Moto employees that does not look for new blood, new ideas or any constructive dissent. Most managers have only ever worked at Moto and only understand one way of doing business, very conservative and risk averse and full of excuses when business results are poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire leaders not lemmings and put new blood in every single department. Stop making excuses for management's failure to make timely decisions to do, or not do, new things. Greg Brown said it himself, Motorola's success is it's biggest threat because of the complacency it has created at Moto.
