Resting on their laurels while the company fell apart

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIf you live in the Schaumburg area, this could be a nice, convenient place to work.

ConsMotorola still thinks they are the leader they were 30 years ago and while they talk about innovation, they are so caught up in red tape and process that it takes forever to move forward. Management believes they have all the answers and continue to build roadblocks to success. While they are a "global" company, their world view is centered in Schaumburg.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdmit you don't know all the answers; listen to employees, stop promoting "yes men" to management positions.

Current Management Ruined one of the best US companies

    Finance (Former Employee)
    Schaumburg, IL

ProsPay specifically for Directors and above was very good.

ConsWorks employees into the ground. Good ole boys club. No diversity. Unable to look beyond current quarterly reporting. Makes knee jerk decisions to make quarterly numbers with little regard for impact on future.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake more interest in giving back to the community & employees. Need to investigate inappropriate behavior by management towards female personnel.

    Motorola Solutions Work life

    Senior Solutions Consultant (Former Employee)
    Oklahoma City, OK

ProsGreat company if you were on the communications side of the house. The mobility side, did not have enough products that satisfied our customers needs.

ConsNo research and development for new mobile products, outside of radios.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop products that will allow you to reach into other segments of public safety.

My experience at Motorola Solutions was very rewarding. I worked with some very smart and loyal people.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsGreat people and good customers.

ConsRegular downsizing reduces the opportunities for advancement. The organization is accustomed to moving at the speed of its primary customer base, governments.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind new revenue streams to put energy back into the workplace.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

A behemoth waiting for nimble players to overtake it

    Senior Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
    Schaumburg, IL

Pros1. Very relaxed environment with very less work stress and peer pressure.
    2. Management very approachable and encouraging.

Cons1. Management is very stubborn and most of the times very slow to change / bring great products to market fast.
    2. Sr. Mgmt and Leadership is not receptive of radical changes, which lets other companies take it for a ride.
    3. Outdated manufacturing and IT processes which lead to high costs and slow changes.
    4. Mostly SDLC modified agile practices which does not work for the most part.
    5. Not much enthusiasm at the employee level and not much sense of ownership.

Advice to Senior Management1. Be flexible and proactive to changes in the marketplace and try to bring changes in your teams.
    2. Do not react to something after the fact, be proactive and have the market follow you.
    3. Do not make another mistake like letting Nokia win you over even though they did not have any mobile IP.
    4. Do not bring in high profile CEO's who knows nothing more than what you do and pay them exorbitant amount of money to suggest a simple mantra which most of the employees and you already knew at the time.

    Engineering Manager

    Engineering Manager (Former Employee)
    Schaumburg, IL

ProsGreat resource of process driven RF experts and large capital budgets to maintain a significant pool of test equipment and physical resources.

ConsChange of direction is painfully slow. Several years ago the company had some processes in the product life cycle that did not allow participation from all elements of the company until it was 'their turn'.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot sure how things are managed today, but, I would modify the product life cycle and its review process to include input from all interested parties at each stage.

Not a good place to work like it used to be

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Schaumburg, IL

ProsThe best benefits of working at Motorola are the flexibility of hours and the paid time off.

ConsThe challenges is the environment has turned into every man for himself. The managers look out for themselves before they do the right thing and stick up for their employees. The morale is at an all time low.
