I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Able to work on a variety of interesting projects using different technologies. Hard work is recognized and you can get visibility to senior management.

    Cons

They are selling my division so he future is uncertain. Company has downsized over recent years so they expect those still there to pick up the additional work load.

    Cons

    Very hard to move up
Low salaries compared to national average
Located in the suburbs of Chicago. One of the most boring places out there

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be able to take total charge of a project quickly. Leadership is always willing to assist.

    Cons

Not enough emphasis on formal training. Most of the learning was OJT. Too many convoluted procedures for equipment lists and actually assembling the system in the factory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider upfront training prior to assigning Program Managers. Streamline the entire design, assembly, and testing processes.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Ability to work from home, vacation or paid time off starts at 4 weeks for developers. Healthy training budget, training gets approved fairly easily. Interesting projects. Ability to work with teams from all over the world who are technically sharp and competent.

    Cons

The company should invest in newer technologies and lead the market on innovations. Why the company hasn't invested more on Artificial Intelligence when it already has all the know how for voice processing and the ability to attract talent. The company should invest in drones, robotics, AI, wearable electronics for public safety.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in newer technologies and lead the market on innovations. Bring in new employees and lead the market again.

    I worked at Motorola Solutions

    Pros

Telecommuting, benefits, people - all great! Telecommuting is almost the entire culture. Most telecommuters are treated just like in office people, and since many teams are global, there is a sense that everyone is in the same situation - not in an office building but at home. This is a very strong component to the benefits of working at MSI.

    Cons

It is a challenge to get ahead. There are many, many, many Reductions in Force (everyone knows what "the list" is, and no one wants to be on it!) Probably the hardest thing is to be stuck in a niche and then not have the opportunity to advance.

    Pros

Ability to work in a variety of jobs, move around, work at various locations in the world, learn, grow, expand.

    Cons

None that I experienced while there.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Promotional opportunities every 1 1/2 to 2 years on average, worked with some of the best people out there, benefits good - more vacation time than average, flexibility to work from home when needed.

    Cons

Motorola has changed so much over the past 15 years that it's not the same company I started with - went thru so many rounds of layoffs which can make for a stressful working environment at times. There are fewer rotational opportunities so people get stuck in the same jobs.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

This was a great company until the corp raiders got it.

    Cons

Layoffs on regular basis and they are selling off all the business. Odds are they will be bought out soon. This is not the Motorola that started the radio business. They have lost direction and innovation, they will not be a top radio company soon as competitors are catching them. They keep saying we are focusing on our core business or in other words we have no idea what to do next.

    Pros

    People are good. Good benefits.

    Cons

Company is under a lot of change and you never feel secure. Everyone is expendable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I understand the bottom-line is important but you need the right people in order to achieve that bottom-line. Show you appreciate the people and don't use lay-offs as the first resort in times of trouble.
