    Pros

We use state of the art technology on the software development. The company encourages you to continue education and reimburse the expenses.

    Cons

The sell-off of parts of the company created insecurities and low morale, the stock market is not rewarding the financial statements.

    Advice to Management

Be more daring and dream big about the future. We have the capacity and the people to make MSI great.

    Pros

Great corporate culture. It's nice to be able to say that your product is something that helps save lives. It used to be a big company and one could move around a lot.

    Cons

It only felt stable for about 4 years out of 20. I was always worried about layoffs, but at least they were big enough that you could usually find something else within the company.

    Advice to Management

This company should be treated like a utility.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, nice benefits, and a history of innovation and excellence brought tons of very intelligent, highly motivated people to work for this company.

    Cons

Now that the company is being split up and wave after wave of layoffs come through, all those talented workers are jumping ship if they haven't been laid off already.

    Advice to Management

Please stop screwing around and constantly laying people off. Get the layoffs done so that whoever's left can focus on doing their job. This is the company that made the radio that Neil Armstrong used when he said "One small step for man..." Now it is just a shadow of that company.

    Pros

The pay is very good. They do a good job of rewarding their employees. The work environment is relaxed and the people are great.

    Cons

They have been trying to transition from a hardware company to a software company but the transition is challenging. People still want to treat software creation like old hardware creation. Change is slow. Too many people are holding on until retirement as opposed to driving bold change.

    Advice to Management

Embrace and drive a culture change throughout the organization. I hear people talk about a change but not do anything to encourage it or drive it. There's still too much incentive to stay the same which is lower career risk.

    Pros

Great work life balance. Great employees that want the company to succeed and grow. Benefits still pretty good although raises/bonuses are minimal after that.

    Cons

Too much management, red tape and politics. Facilities surprisingly pretty bad for a company such as Motorola.

    Advice to Management

Turn morale of your staff around, the company has many people with great potential working there with little to no incentive to do more than the bare minimum to not be laid off.
