I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent paid-time-off policy. Opportunities for international travel and collaborations with colleagues in other design centers.

    Cons

Management has no clues. Most so-called 'system architects' have no relevant software engineering experience and are completely out of touch with reality, and yet are in the position of making critical software design decisions. Most of the day is wasted in meetings debating the merits of engineering practices and techniques that are considered standard anywhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the entire system architecture team. They are not adding any value and are actively impeding progress from being made. Also need to invest a lot more on forward-looking technologies.

    Pros

Good benefits. Culture is more in an acceptable level.

    Cons

Poor Management... unprofessional.. worse micro-management style that someone would ever face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to make the difference between people VS work.

    Pros

Wonderful people who are dedicated to their customers and want to do what's right. Good pay and benefits. Great brand name, and strong engagement with government customers.

    Cons

Senior Management only really cares about senior management. Not a great career path for those outside the inner circle. Not a very open or honest environment.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I recently quit after working here for more than 5 years.

    - Initially when i joined the company was thriving and there were lots of opportunities for growth and learning.
    - Work/Life balance is excellent

    Cons

    - The products currently being developed are old compared to the current technology.
    - 100 Million cost cutting in the next 12 months. I expect more layoffs and reduction of benefits
    - Employee benefits have been reduced every year

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to value the employees and retain talent. A lot of the people i know have left in the past few years.

The company's been shrinking for the last few years. There have been plenty of layoffs and the employee morale is at an all time low.

    Pros

Salaries are still competitive, and there's rarely any overtime demanded anymore

    Cons

Just waiting for the layoffs to come around to me...most everybody is gone now that knew anything

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop believing that engineers are interchangeable.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time

    Pros

MSI is the dominant player in the public safety two-way radio market around the world. If you want to work in telecommunications, MSI is still a good place to be.

    Cons

The compensation is poor. The CEO and senior leadership seem to be more focused on share price on a quarter-by-quarter basis than they are on building the company and producing quality products years down the road.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture is a problem. The organization could be much flatter from the perspective of the org chart. I don't think the CEO has a grasp on the business.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time

    Pros

Professional culture, rich corporate history, strong public safety market presence

    Cons

Very conservative and uninterested in expanding outside public safety space, Very bureaucratic internal processes based on company's legacy as a large company with over 125,000 employees. Those days are gone but the culture has not caught up. Senior managers (100%) all come from that background or public safety management background.

    Pros

Interesting and stable work and good people to work with. Excellent work/life balance in engineering.

    Cons

The company has shrunk from 150k+ to under 15k in the last 20 years. The uncertainty can cast gloom over the work environment. Less advancement opportunities in a shrinking environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to and promote your engineers more. There is too much disconnect between upper management and engineering.

    Pros

    Good Cultural value.
    Good Benefits
    Industry average salary

    Cons

It was difficult to see Motorola to go down like this. Lack of energy at senior leadership level. They didn't invest money to new technology and services. SLT always worry about their personal gain by selling pieces. overall, good cultural value. After getting company smaller and smaller, moral was low and difficult to maintain personal growth. It was difficult to see this big loss.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Higher level management-easier to approach, helpful and will solve various doubts of an intern.
HR-very friendly and keep organizing 'Lunch and Learn' events for the interns.

    Cons

Sometimes interns are given minimal work and there is too much of free time. Project based training is not provided and interns are expected to learn on the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1/2 weeks training should be provided to incoming interns.
